Pink camo, #dadbodhunter, and a whole lotta stupid!

I wasn’t home. I threw it all in the fridge and went straight to Georgia.

Wow! Great read! Thanks for sharing. My "Beer fridge" might become an aging wonder of the garage!
My beer fridge doubles as my aging fridge. Usually age my birds at least a week as long as they’re not shot top up too bad. Also do quarters for short periods of time. Nothing major.

The white mold is not an issue, I'm not sure why it would only be on the tenders though and not the others.

My shop fridge works alright for aging, in fact my wife demands I age deer now for the better taste and tenderness. Never aged the tenders though more than a week though.

Got the swamp cooler and irrigation winterized today just in time for the snow to start falling. Snow on the cars tonight as I took out the cuttings trash.

Got the kids to bed and then went to town on butchering my NM in order to make room for hopefully another elk and two more deer in the next two and a half weeks. Wheels up in 11 days for a 10 day marathon.

Found three petals in the front and back strap from the second shot.

I only have the hinds left to go and should be able to do that another late night. The grind is getting done this winter when I have more time. The grind pile is really building. IMG_5067.jpegIMG_5066.jpegIMG_5064.jpegIMG_5069.jpeg

It’s all dried out, cleaned, and in one place after NM. That’s a project for another day. Meat first, then gear packing will commence. 10 days, a minimum ok 2k miles, 2 deer tags, one elk tag, 2 states, 3 units. What am I thinking?!?!?

I drove a while about an hour and passed three different restaurants that were closed before I hit service and started searching. There was the same gas station burritos I got in the way in that were a ways out of my way or and rv park and mineral springs that had a restaurant. Wasn’t sure what I was getting into but figured it was worth a shot. I was half out of it and covered in blood when I walked into this place and asked if they had any available rooms. He looked at me a bit weird and said they had a vintage air stream. I said sounds good enough and went to get changed because it gave me free access to the springs.

I should have realized in the lobby but I was out of it. Not until I walked into this meticulously redone airstream did I realize I wasn’t in some po dunk rv park. I got some trunks on and went to the springs and ordered some food for the latest pickup I could. I enjoyed the different pools and tried to help the body recover. Probably the only reason I was able to compete in the world championships of tree climbing 48 hours later.

I will absolutely be taking my wife here on our first overnight date when she is no longer nursing the baby. I felt a bit guilty I was enjoying the springs while she was home taking care of our three girls. I picked up my food around 8:30, went back and stuffed my face.

@cheesepizza moved to NM and came and met me for a tailgate breakfast for a bit the next morning before I drove home. I made it home in time to pick up my oldest from her enrichment program and then spent the next 30 hours or getting everything situated for my red-eye Wednesday night.

It is now Sunday night the 27th. I shot and elk on Monday and then flew across the country and placed 29th in the world at the International Tree Climbing Championships. I leave in 17 days to go hunt white tails in MT in the full blown @SwaggyD experience, followed immediately by a Colorado e/s 4th season elk tag. This marathon is not yet finished!
😂 well goddamnit, that’s rich! You accidentally found your way to Ojo Caliente springs. A pristine cherished outpost of gentrification. Sort of an extension from Abiqui, Goergia O’Keefe fancy. Ojo is frequented by people of means, Subaru Audi vegan artist manbuns.

Yeah it was a bit of a culture shock after everything else around.

All true... but to be fair...Mesa Verde Cafe, across the st from the entrance to hot springs is some top shelf home cooking.
Full disclosure...I have family that lives in Abiqui...we stop there every time we go into the gorge down to Pilar. IIRC they close around 2.

It was closed. Almost all of the restaurants down there were only open thrs-sun

Was thinking about that with all of your hunts this year. You must have some pretty dependable help.
They are getting there. I have been training my foreman since he started in the industry a little over 3 years ago. In the job training by me every day. He can now run the job site when I am not there. He is in his early 20s though and still learning how to be a good leader and how to keep the ego in check. I handpick the jobs while I am gone, mostly commercial and municipal work where I can double check before billing. We hired his then girlfriend, now fiancé over the summer and she is a little firecracker. I’d put her up against most grown men! Still learning but a solid part of the team. They are great and work their butts off, part of the family! They hang out with my kids after work most days and even the occasional water fight in the afternoons. Biggest blessing of all is that I only work a 3 day work week in the field now. They work 5. I do bids, paperwork, and all the other business ownership stuff 7 days a week though before my kids wake up. Luckily we homeschool and they aren’t up till after 9am most days.

Spending the majority of the week with my kids is the real stuff in life though! That is what really matters at the end of the day. Be involved in your kids lives, you don’t get a redo!
