Pause on Federal Grants - MD25-13

Meh, with the 50 million in savings from condoms to Gaza, we should build another one. Plus we could pay down the deficit with the difference of 1.4 million.

How is that not a win-win?

Also, theres more to those crossings than just wildlife. Has the potential to save human lives, vehicles being damaged/totaled, insurance savings potentially, etc.

Americans contacted their elected officials on Nov 5, 2024. One group made far more contact than others and we are now getting what they wanted. It will get worse before it gets better, but the pain is neccasary. Seems like for the last 30+ years we are always one election away from getting our out of control spending under control. No matter who was elected, nothing ever changed, the problem only got worse. I for one am happy to live with the pain. I am more confident today than I have ever been in the last 30 years that real change is possible.

Stop spending money we don't have on projects we don't support, then we can talk about increasing our taxes. Seems intuitively simple to me.

you do realize that When you go to the gas station you pay 18.4 cents per gallon excise to the federal government to fund programs like this. Plus many states add on their own taxes. You’d be hard pressed to find a public road, of any kind, whether it’s a interstate, a federal, a state, county, or even city street that doesn’t have funding from the federal highway administration.

Does Wyoming receive USFW federal grant money to manage wildlife?

The WYGF has spent over 50 million in license dollars to manage federally controlled grizzly bears. When are we going to be reimbursed for that?

Wyoming receives PR/DJ funding from self imposed taxes on hunting and fishing equipment, yes. So do all 50 states and I believe even U.S. Territories.

Long time recipient of CRP payments here, but I'll be the first to tell you it is pretty darned stupid. The government is basically paying me (with money they don't have) to grow weeds in former crop fields and I'm glad to take the $$ as I wanted this ground for wildlife habitat anyway. So I get my habitat and an annual check. These programs are not used much by any of the really big time farmers who have and continue to wreck the most habitat so it's not making a huge impact anyway. Most of the CRP recipients are small time landowners like myself that don't depend on farming as sole source of income.

I don't think it would be crazy to shut off a lot of the CRP programs and instead allow land owners to hold those properties that remain in habitat "property tax free". Guys like me are going to keep doing this stuff anyway, the CRP checks have just been a bonus.
I for one would way rather the federal government pay for that wildlife habitat to remain "unproductive" (and able to ramp up production in times of national need, which is the purpose of the program) than strip the counties that are already starving for funds from the property tax revenue for that land.

We'll see what the deficit does in the next 4 years to gauge "success".

If I were a betting man...and used 16-20 as an indicator, I have a pretty good idea where to place my chips.

Just sayin'.

Yes we will. I am not without my doubts as well, just more optimistic than ever before.
Do you think wanting to do away with the debt ceiling is a good sign or a bad sign for getting spending under control?

I personally don't think that's a good sign for those beating the drum to control spending. That's almost like tossing in the towel, IMO.

$50 mil?

That would be a nice little start towards a down payment to pay back all of the Federal wildlife grant money Wyoming has received🙂
