Patches

Ontario used to give out nice patches for anyone who brought in hides and jaw. But then they turned it over to the Natives. Went to very cheesy cheap caps instead and no one was ever at the hide depot. I think the scheme was abandoned years ago but not sure. I haven't hunted big game here for more than twenty years. The resourse has been exploited to death (adult tags in this district were finally reduced from 700 to 75 ... about twenty years too late). And the price of tags is now plumb ridiculous.

PA has a lot of patches and they put out new ones each year for different things. I have some from NY for participation in grouse surveys.

The tagged walleye on Mille lacs is fun too. I got some paperwork with age and stocking info when I turned in the tag.

Vermont gives out "successful hunter" patches if you bring your deer to a check station on opening weekend or to a check station during the youth weekend.

That would be the day when Colorado gives us something like that for nothing. I'm surprised they don't charge us to do the inspection.

Curious if any other states do anything similar. It's kind of a cool little extra thing the Minnesota DNR does for submitting your tooth for aging. You submit a tooth for aging in the fall and get back a patch and the age of your bear in the spring.View attachment 180747

Illinois used to give out a pin for every deer checked at check station. I think you can still order them but no more check stations so nobody does it anymore. Kind of a cool way for youngsters to show off. Not anymore

It appears a lot of us could learn a lot from you!! Impressive to say the least.

I wish WI gave patches like that. Only patch I ever got was at the age of 12. Was tracking a deer through the willows and branch I didn't see poked me in the eye. Despite what you hear, eye patches in middle school do not get the girls.

I'll have to dig out the crappy hat my buddy got for his deer about twenty years ago. When I tried to take in my last moose hide in 1997 there was no one collecting them. The moose before that I had a helluva time hunting down the Native guy who was collecting the hides and giving out crests. I said I didn't know if the crest program was still out there. Nothing false about that information. Most guys here don't bother anymore. Rankles many to have to give moose hides to the guys who can legally shoot as many moose as they want, any time they want, in any way they want. Listening to them running up and down the bush roads all night long spotlighting with snow machines just doesn't set well.
