How about answering the question of how we pay off the largest national debt ever run up in the history of the U.S. without paying taxes?

Put the blame where it belongs...and that isnt on the "liberals" who dont control the whitehouse...that would be on that other political party...

Move your mouse up to my post re taxes...never said we shouldn't pay them. Only that they should be put to better use. If we need to get rid of some frivilous research or feel-good social programs then I would naturally defer to the wisdom and fairness of the more nuanced democrats. Limosine liberals that is, movie stars, the professor and Maryanne, there on Gilligan's Isle.

The liberal democrats controlled the purse strings from LBJ onward...to his credit Bill Clinton ran on and tried to enact tax and budget reforms, but when the democrat controlled Senate and House got wind of this,they bent him over like some Hollywood rent-boy and that was the end of that. Thus we heralded in the "Contract on Amerika" as you guys like to put it. But I digress!
Was that largest deficit thing in inflated dollars? Like the double digit stuff of the Carter years? Ah yes, Jimmy Carter, the father of modern Islamic terrorism among other wonderful things in that democrat controlled white house.

Buzz, I think that this terrorist issue has warranted alot of the big brother (spy on their own people as you put it) programs. If they were not in place who knows what may happen. And what about London.. damn camera on every corner. Why because there has to be to stop the crime.

Ithaca....not really sure why the question? It was nearly 3 decades between the balanced budget of LBJ (shudder!) and Clinton and a lot of Clinton's "doings" in regards to balancing the budget were under the watch of a Republican held Congress back in 1994 that led to a push for a balanced budget.

Both President Clinton and Congress helped reduced the deficit- much was due to major economic growth at the time and spending controls such as welfare reform. Other was smoke and mirrors like changing the "formula" to count Social Security surplus as revenue.

Guess what I'm saying is that there were both donkeys and elephants between -69 and -94 and they were both upside down with the checkbook!

So if I'm at a 28% current rate, tripled would then become a 84% tax rate. That's a good plan Buzz.....you should lobby your party to push for this tax hike. That would pay down the debt in no time. Problem solved. And you would still be able to keep your government job.

And I actually don't know who balanced the budget last, but more importantly for this discussion I DONT CARE. As stated in a previous post you could no doubt out-debate me on most anything so I defer to your obviously superior talent...seriously though, as Joe Biden once said about Hillary's health care debacle, "It would serve no useful purpose to discuss this matter any further."
