I don’t claim to know much about blacktail, but I know that is a NICE blacktail buck

Not a Pack Out a drag out !

My 2nd biggest Blacktail, I had hunted this clearcut the day prior , and made a mistake and didn’t check the bottom corner , my parents were parked at the very top of the ridge and I had slow hunted this clear cut on foot and I waved for them to come down hopped in the truck went 10 feet around the corner and this big stud buck took 2 hops and walked into the timber, I was so sick to my stomach id hunted so hard , there’s only a couple days left in season and I thought I’d screwed up my one chance at a buck

Hunted the rest of the day didn’t see another thing but a couple cows and all I could think about was that buck and how come I didn’t walk 10 feet and just look around the corner at that tiny little section, but I couldn’t get out of my mind the way after he took two hops he walked into the timber and I’m like I don’t think I spooked him that bad. so the next morning I raced up that mountain in the dark and parked before sunrise, let it get quiet and slow hunted that same clear-cut and I did it right and sure enough that buck was standing out in that clearcut and I made the shot , called my parents on the phone and said you’re not gonna believe this , that big old buck from yesterday that we screwed up on I just shot him my parents couldn’t believe it and they they’re retired so they drove a solid hour drive to get to me , my dad and I dragged him a couple hundred yards up hill out of the clear cut , while mom took pictures and it was one hell of a day.

Upon getting to my buck I realized why he took off running at the sound of our truck , is because years earlier someone had tried to shoot him , I’m guessing when he was younger, someone tried to get a headshot on him and shot his ear and every time he heard a vehicle after that he took off running, that would’ve been one cool buck to shoulder mount and I kinda regret I never did it, His other ear was split halfway down and healed from a fight.
