I love the state of Tennessee, however, I've never hunted it. I am from WI and would like to do some hunting in TN in the next year or so but wondering how it works. I got a TWRA login created, and it seems like I can get a year-long annual outdoorsman package for $495. It seems odd that I wasn't allowed to select licenses or permits for individual game? Is that normal, or am I just doing this incorrectly. If it's the case that its $495 for everything, I can just purchase that and next year when season opens drive down to a WMA in TN and shoot a buck?

Please help haha.

If you want to just deer hunt, you should be able to buy a NR All Game license for $305 plus a WMA permit for an additional $24, but confirm here.

Also, I would figure out the regulations on whatever public land you want to hunt in advance. Some are quota only, some are open with statewide seasons, some have special regulations. It can be overwhelming and confusing but you can find everything you need in the TWRA hunting guide.

Deer bag limits will also differ by management zone.

Just level set your expectations. It’s not the Midwest, and if it’s a high scoring, mature buck you’re after, you’re going to likely be highly disappointed.

But if you want a fun a hunt with a reasonable chance to take home some meat, that can easily be had with a little research and legwork- same as anywhere else.

Don’t let the liberal bag limits fool you either. A lot of the public in those regions gets absolutely hammered. But again, same as anywhere else, if you’re willing to do more than the next person, you can find success.

That’s what I found. Way more confusing than multiple other states.
