Out of state elk hunt

I’m wanting to get an elk hunt planned with my Dad. I grew up hunting in CO with him, but have since moved away. I want to get in a fun elk hunt with him before age and health become too much of a factor.

What state/unit would be good recommendations for such a hunt? It doesn’t have to be a trophy hunt...thinking of either over the counter tags or one of the “guaranteed” draws.

Any pointers/help would be awesome. Thanks.

If you can get tags, I'd go back to where you hunted in CO, for nostalgia if nothing else.

My two cousins and my little brother are planning an elk hunt trip to public land to Wyoming or Colorado in fall 2019. None of us have ever done anything like this before. We are good whitetail hunters here in Arkansas. I’m thinking of zone 6 in Wyoming or maybe a few places in Colorado. Anyone have any suggestions or resources on where to get started? We are thinking about cow elk for our first hunt since those tags are easier to get.
