schmaltz: As for where the buck was gotten, I originally jumped him from his bed in a CRP field which is mostly native type grasses. From there he ran into a tree row where he stayed until I pushed him out onto more grassland stuff. What you see is actually sweetclover that sometimes gets more then 6 feet tall.
As to the weight, for some dumb reason I never weighed him. Guess I was in too big of a hurry to get to the rocky mountain oyster feed being held that night at the local watering hole. We usually sign up for the big buck contest in my home town where they determine the winner by field-dressed weight but for some reason we never signed up this year.
