Only a dolt does not know this

Sure you are not a AFWR supporter, onpoint?

How about we allow the experts we hire at the Gallatin National Forest to do their job? I think this was the point the "Dolt" was awkwardly trying to make.

From the article.......

The work

The Forest Service has touted the project as a way to protect about 500 homes, a public campground, roads and power lines in the area. The work was also designed to enhance aspen and whitebark pine stands deeper in the forest on upper Tepee Creek Road, which is an inventoried roadless area. Around Rainbow Point Campground, one of the busiest in the Northern Region, tree thinning is meant to reduce human-grizzly bear encounters.

Does shit like this take place in California? Yes.

Way off topic, but I had the privilege to manage a logging project that ran right behind Michael Garrity's cabin.....that guy is a piece of work.

"Sure you are not a AFWR supporter, onpoint?"

Really, bhr?? Classic. And completely predictable.
Yup - AFWR - oh and Greenpeace, PETA, Earth First, and #MeToo.

Trump is threatening to pull federal funds for California wildfires claiming gross "mismanagement"

Let's see if the un-educatable can be educated.....

1) The Southern California fire is burning in chaparral scrub. The last time these were "forested" was when the native Americans broke off a few sticks to cook a rabbit or two. Only a dolt does not know this.

2) The Paradise City fire is burning in mixed conifer, deciduous and scrub. This is a heavy underbrush area. This is not logging country, unless you want to pay logging companies to clear scrub at a loss of profit. Have one of your sharp pencil guys go to Google Maps and print a picture of the area North of Paradise City. It is covered with clear cut forests areas. THAT is logging timber and that is done in California just like every were else. Only a dolt does not know this.

3) Giving more water to the central valley farmers will do nothing to prevent wildfires, there is no connection between these two issues. Wildfires are fought by air tankers using retardant, bulldozers making firebreaks, and most of all, lots of men and women using pulaski, shovel and rake. Only a dolt does not know this.

4) Wildfires are fought like a military operation. It is a multi-agency effort that requires resources, planning, skill, effort, courage and MONEY. California has one of the best wildfire operations in the country. Only a dolt does not know this.

5) Drought is the key component of the intensity and frequency of wildfires in the west (not just California) It is drought, drought, drought, drought! Twenty years ago, California did not burn like this, because they were not in perpetual drought. The forests were exactly the same then as they are now. The fire season is no longer a season, it is year round. Only a dolt does not know this.

6) California has the most complex water distribution system in the country, maybe in the world. They have dams, aqueducts, pump stations, reservoirs, massive piping, and even desalination. They are able to get good clean water to 40 million people AND still grow the most produce in the country. Only a dolt does not know this.

Lets get to the real reason for your post about "mismanagement". You got a shellacking in the election by all those namby-pamby liberals in California, right?

Ah, the true hard rock men and women of California, the climbers, mountainbikers, skiers, hunters, fishermen, endurance runners, kayaks, boaters, windsurfers, surfers, divers, prospecters, rockhounds, paragliders, hang gliders, 4 x 4 er's, dirt bike riders, horseback riders, land sailors, hikers, walkers and flower pickers. They ALL put the stick in your eye, right?

Only a dolt does not know this.

Cheers,

Mark

Ye Shall Be Free TO Roam....

Good Points!
It is not rocket science...drought and not forest management is the primary driver of wildfire.

With our warming climate, more frequent and severe fires are likely to continue,
which in Alaska is good for moose, bad for caribou.

Alaska's 2 largest wildfire years in the past 60 years were 2004, 2015
Based on dendrochonology and stable isotope analysis, 2004 was the hottest summer in the past 200 years in interior Alaska,
and that was the largest wildfire year in terms of hectares burned in the past 60 years
Based on lake sediment cores, the fire frequency in Yukon Flats is now the highest it has been in 10,000 years.

some drink beer and road hunt at same time, some hike deep into back country

Some of us are open minded and do both of these.

dendrochronology? stable isotope analysis? sediment cores?
That's some of that sciency stuff that produces data.
Stuff that enviro wacknut job guys like that radical Jim Hansen comes up with.
Far better and more reliable info on here from some of the vast stores of opinions on these sciency topics possessed by certain HT'ers:D

Haha! I was thinking more, to really take advantage of the value we, as Americans would really find our best representation, I believe the best Prez / VP:

Spartacus as Prez w/ Tribal lady as VP.

Climate change is definitely real. A soil analysis will tell you the area around Battle Ridge Campground around 200 years ago was prairie. Now the 200 year old overstocked conifer encroachment is dying. Only a dolt would sue to stop this thinning project.
