He's a good buck. These pics don't do him justice. A lowland deer. I hadn't seen him before. Sometimes bigger bucks show up low to rut. Don't know where this guy was. mtmuley

So, since you don't count brow tines out west is that a 4 point buck? Or since it has 2 sets of brow tines it can be a 5 point buck?

A few pictures from my first day afield with a weapon in hand.

This top buck is a deer I had seen this summer a couple times. I was surprised how long I watched him on Sunday, and had to talk myself out of shooting him. He'd be my best mule deer by a long shot, but I've just got to keep reminding myself that I waited this long for the tag, I need to see the season through and see if something really special shows up. As was pointed out to me the other day,there's no reason in having one fun morning stalking a buck like this when I think I can do it over and over again for the next two and a half months.

This buck is a deer that my wife spotted with about 15 minutes of light left. We were able to get within 300-400 yards, but no chance at a stalk that night. He looked a bit better than the deer in the post above, but not significantly. He was a fatty fatty-bo batty.

In post #28 I posted a picture of a deer in a burn. I think this is that same buck, judging by that pot belly and location on the mountain. I didn't get very good pictures at all, and will definitely be back up there trying to get a better look at him.

mtlion and I spent a frigid Saturday on top of the mountain looking in the area where I saw the larger one above. He didn't show, but we did get to watch this cool deer for an hour or two. Wide, heavy, and a huge bodied old deer. Wouldn't score worth a damn, but is a really cool old buck. Definitely a deer to be proud of.
