Note to self

Thankfully it wasn't me, but a buddy and I went deer hunting and right out of the truck it is a serious elevation gain and a real quad burner. We walk in the dark for about an hour and get to our vantage point a few minutes before it gets light and got settled in with the spotter and binos to look for deer.

After it got light enough to see I glanced at my buddy and didn't see his rifle. So I asked, "Where did you put your rifle?"

It was in the truck. And I was tagged out so I didn't have a rifle with me.

So we had a very nice nature walk that morning. :)

I drove an hour and a half to the boat ramp in January one time and forgot my waders. I hunted in 10 dregee weather with 25mph winds in wet and muddy nikey sneakers for 6 hours that morning.

My buddy loaned me a pair of his socks to wear over my thin socks, but 20 years later, my feet have still never recovered from that morning.

We killed our limit.

The things I used to do for a duck or goose was unreal....I really wanted them back then...lord have mercy...lol

Ok this thread has jinxed me. Just got to my bow spot, opened bow case, no release! Are you kidding me? Dug under foam and found really old one that I hated to use. Any bets on what happens this afternoon? Stay tuned for royal screw up.🤬

Release is in my light weight bow vest in basement, great place for it.

Left my archery release at home ONCE. Also was headed to Idaho for a bear hunt and somewhere around Omaha remembered the buckets of molasses that I had left in the basement.

Must be four or five years ago. After driving nonstop 24+ hours I arrived in Havre with my three hunting dogs: two Labs, Opal and Ellie, and little Fr Brittany "Puppy." It was too late to check into our usual motel so I had to stay at another one a couple blocks off the main drag. After unloading my stuff and feeding the dogs, it was time to finally feed myself (I don't eat during the drive or I'll get sleepy). McD's was still open so I loaded up the dogs, drove over, and went inside to eat and check email on their wifi. Then I came out and let the dogs do their business on the landscaping (the motel had nothing but paved parking lot). "Okay, one at a time on a leash." First is Opal, then Ellie, then Puppy. "Puppy?" No Puppy! What the ... Must have left her in the motel room. I raced back, unlocked the door ... but no Puppy! Oh my gawd, where could she be? I was near hysterical and hollering her name. The gal who ran the place came out. "Are you looking for a little black and white dog? I tried to catch her but she'd have none of it. Don't know where she went." I hollered again ... and the little stinker came flying around the corner from the street, literally flew into my chest almost knocking me over, then proceeded to simultaneously chew on my beard and lick my face frantically. I have a feeling she was left in the room, raised a fuss, and manager just let her out to stop the racket. Never went back to that place. Ever since that episode Puppy keeps an eagle eye on me in motels. Parks herself at the door until I'm ready for bed. "You ain't leaving without me."20220411_142800.jpg

Less on the way in, more on the way out. I was leaving a local shooting preserve after a long afternoon of dog training and having dinner with the owner and his wife. Said my goodbyes, loaded up the dogs, and set out. About 10 miles of backroads until the highway where I'd put on another 30 miles or so. I decided to get gas before jumping on the interstate and realize my tailgate was down... with two cased shotguns precariously hanging off the back of the truck. Forgot to close the tailgate and almost bounced me and my wife's guns on to a back road at night. No idea how they stayed on there for as long as they did

A guy I know climbed up into the unlimited units one November day. Found rams, made the move the next morning. Got ready to shoot and....... no bullets.

4k ft up.

I've forgot a lot of shit before but man that one would suck.

Drove 12 hours one spring, to go turkey hunting in south dakota, after getting there and setting up my camp, i still had some daylight left. So i grabbed my gear and went to get my tag out of the glove box of my truck, when i opened the envelope that's when i realized i had grabbed the wrong envelope out of my safe when i left home. Called home and sure enough my tag was still in my safe. Went on the state website and found out duplicates could only be printed off at a fish and game office, which was closed till Monday, due to it being Easter weekend. I just packed up and drove back home, went back a couple weeks later and killed my turkey.

I've forgot plenty of stuff myself, never as bad as the hunters I guided though, nothing worse than being hours deep into a heinous bushwhack and realizing your client doesn't have his bow... that you know was with him earlier... and having to figure out how to ask him where he might have left it in a tactful way, then having to try to backtrack and find it...
People never understood why I was always running a GPS track all day until I had to park them for a couple hours and go back to find their gun/bow/backpack/binos...

I did have a particularly interesting one where a pair of guys lost a GPS, I backtracked and found what I thought was it pretty quickly, brought it back and it wasn't theirs, but worked fine so they started using it, the next day the other guy lost his GPS, and on the walk out found yet another one...apparently there was something about that mountain that attracted GPS units...
