Broadhead tune with fixed blades (QAD) = same same POI with field, fixed, and mechanical (Rage).
Carry both in the quiver and if at longer distances or windy I'll use the mechanical otherwise always reaching for fixed blade first.
This is my set up as well.
QAD is generally my primary.
However every now and then a rage or NAP spitfire will come out to play on a whitetail hunt.

NAP gobbler getters and NAP spitfires for turkey.

Hmm, I've had trouble sharpening mine, don't come up to shape new.
Those that use the QAD, are they sharp from new and if so I presume the the inserts are same? Getting close to hunt time here.
I use a dedicated stone and never sharpen anything else than broadheads on it. 6 swirls per side and they are GTG. I do agree that they aren't super sharp from the factory.....

All my elk and deer have been shot with a magnus stinger or black hornet, but currently using QAD exodus

I’ve shot javelina with a bunch of different heads; stingers, slick trick magnums, rage, spitfires, montecs, grim reapers. Only one I didn’t love the performance of was the grim reaper but most of that was probably shot placement

The QAD Exodus keeps showing up on this thread. I also see on that arrow tester guy Lusk has them ranked as the top fixed blade per his testing methodology. I’ve found some of these short and stubbies broadheads to be especially tunable. Might have to add them to my own test pile this spring.

Fwiw the full blade flies just a smidge better than the swept blade model. YMMV.

killed lots of elk with one shot with fixed blades and the only time I used expandable they failed on an antelope, which was gruesome. I killed him but it wasn’t pretty.

@Frequently Banned Troll posted about ramcat diamondbacks a while ago. They were on sale for 15 bucks for a 3 pack. Seem to fly better than the montecs i had used.

Its hard to imagine many broadheads these days not working if you do your job.

Was just getting bored of the politicking and wanted to get some gear chatter rolling. Even if the subject matter is somewhat superfluous. Heck, people killed em dead with fixed blade knapped flint broadheads for a looooong time.

Next bear tag, I might go that route. Long bow and handmade arrows & broadheads. We can bait them here, so I could easily setup within 10 yards.

Modern equipment is fun, but with a gimme tag like that, it might be fun to try something new!

Iron Will is currently selling singles for $39. Hard pill when a three pack of other brands cost the same.

I just ordered one to try out before a full commit. 100 grain with a single left bevel to match my bare shaft rotation and fletching direction. I’ll back weight my inserts and the arrow should be dead nuts 500 grains total.

I’ll post more about the arrow build on the AI arrow thread I started once I get everything tuned. I used Chat GPT compared against Archer’s Advantage to explore hypothetical set-ups and to test AI capabilities.

Anyone have any reasons to dislike the Iron Wills? Field reports?
Difficult to sharpen due to the strong steel would be my only complaint. If I was a guy that liked to stack animals with the bow then I would use something cheaper. For me, I basically just need them to kill an elk, so I don't mind paying the cost.

I thought I might try to go as primitive as possible with archery tackle on a wt doe or something at some point. Probably not a flint head though.

Was always impressed by some old photo I saw of (I think) Duncan Gilchrist with a good ole longbow and a nice bull on the ground.

Has anyone used this? I have no reason to change but sometimes I just want to try stuff.

I use them. Haven't killed an animal with them yet. Had opportunities but passed on the shots.
They fly well. I'm using 100 grain.
I noticed them helping a guy cut up his elk. It punched one hell of a hole through both sides.

I’ll be switching this year to the sevrs. They come pretty sharp out of the pack but a guy is selling a sharpening kit for them that turns them into flying scalpels

Expandablea are for lazy people or people to busy to tinker with their bow. 😉 I've always shot fixed, but last year with a new bow setup and little time to really tinker with the bow I used 125 grain expandable Swackers. I have nothing against them and I know they will remove the head from a grouse, but I will be going back to fixed blade. Probably iron will or M3's
I like 2"+ holes in everything, so I shoot expendables.
