NM UNIT 30 youth hunt

My son has his first ever hunt. He’s hunting mule deer in unit 30 in New Mexico. Looks like we will be up there around Thanksgiving. We live in NM, so we have some scouting/preseason glassing opportunities coming up. We have a small toy hauler and a 4x4 side by side so we should be able to cover a lot of ground. Our main intentions are to glass early in the morning and throughout the day as much as possible until we find activity and hopefully something that we like. I’ve found a few spots using ONx hunt but until we actually visit the unit, I’m not sure where we will end up. Hes hunting with a 6.5 creedmoor precision rifle and he’s a great shot out to 450 yards. Anything more and he’s a bit questionable. So we plan to get close before we take a shot.

Any advise?

Was is better to use SxS or truck for getting around

I’m going to be honest. Unit 30 is a unit I will never hunt again. The terrain wasn’t horribly bad, but we used and Sxs to get around. We hunted deer and all we seen for the entirety of our hunt were females , and we were there from opening day to closing.we couldn’t go anywhere without seeing hunters. We did see one set of hunters who were successful. You may have a better experience but it’s not a unit I would go back to. Good luck
