New truck with hail damage

I bought a GMC terrain that had been in a hail storm. The dealership had the vehicles fixed but still sold them at a huge discount. The fact that the car was hail damaged follows it through its lifetime. The cars Msrp was $28,000 and I bought it for $18,000.

I bought a storm damaged Duramax, new off the lot in 2006. Not hail, but had some decent dents. It was $24k off sticker which was almost 50% in those days. Only way I could afford a new truck then. Got slammed by hail in 2009 and even though I disclosed the previous damage to the adjuster (down to each specific dent), he wrote the claim to cover it all. Lucky break for me but I didn’t care about the damage to begin with.

It's surprising how expensive hail damage is to fix. If you're set on getting a new one then offer way lower than their asking. If they say no then tell them they know where to find you and drive your truck a few more weeks. If you seem eager they won't budge.

please expound on this dent fixing procedure lol I've never heard of such a thing or seen it for that matter

Just leave it parked in the sun for years and at some point you realize there aren't any dents on the hood or roof.

My previous truck was purchased with hail damage. Saved 10k. Drove it for over 100k miles. The secret is: when your are driving, they can't see the hail damage.

If it's just the hood and the roof why not just replace the hood? Make sure to find one that's the same color but just replace that and Noone should look at your roof. I had to replace the hood once on my obs ford because I parked under a walnut tree and walnuts fell and absolutely dented the sucker to hell

I would - especially if its a vehicle that i'm going hunting with. Why not buy it at a discount if you can stand to look at the damage. You could have someone pop out some of the bigger dents if you want. That's how Warren Buffet buys his vehicles if that tells you anything.

I mean really it tells me being filthy rich is wasted on him.... 😂

If you can live with the damage I would do it. Bet you could negotiate even lower. mtmuley
The best time to negotiate with a dealer is end of the month, even better if that month is December. Vehicles on the lot are expensive in accounting as inventory carried into the new year. Have you priced a replacement hood? Hail on the roof of a tall truck would rarely be noticed, the hood is obvious every time you look at the vehicle or drive it.

Unless you're looking for a show truck I say go for it. I buy my trucks to actually use as a truck.
They always end up all scratched up anyway.
