New Mexico Backdoor 2016

I think you win the award for the most difficult tag drawn so far!!

I am still reeling a bit. My buddies and I did the fairly typical NM approach with two Hail Marys (16C and Valle Vidal) and one (45) with ~10% odds. We didn't put in as a group, but decided everyone is going regardless. The REAL plan was that my buddies would come hunt 1st rifle here in CO. When I finally got through and saw the green, I assumed it was 45. Then looked closer and lo and behold. License is printed and hanging above my desk where it will stay until October.

I guess I did something right for this karma. Not sure what. Didn't think I'd get to hunt the Gila. Will get down at least once and hopefully twice this summer. Fin has gotten me pointed the right direction.

Drew both Muzzy bull elk and Jan rut archery muley as a non resident. Also already drew Wyoming bull elk limited entry with my father. Gonna be a busy fall.

Congrats to everyone with a tag!

4 big fat red boxes for me. I try to apply for hunts with easier odds but still just can't catch a break. Who knows maybe one year I'll get them all at once. It's hard to live so close to NM, yet be so far away...

I drew archery pronghorn and late archery mule deer. I'm loving New Mexico right now.

i drew the mobility impared bull tag in unit 52 again this year, My wife and youngest son both drew the first rifle bull in 16A, They are both very excited, this will be the hunt of their life. The boy hasn`t drawn a tag in 9 years

Some nice draws hornart!
Looks like some amazing luck for some folks.
A buddy drew a 2nd bow bull, antelope, late muley & ibex. Guy had same hunts last year, but an oryx instead. lol
Good Luck & Good Hunting!

I drew 21A 21B in New Mexico this year for mule deer. How was your hunt? Do you have any tips for good access to areas? It's such a large area. I'm going scouting in a week.
