I had a vortex 4-16x44 with match rings kicking around the safe. I was keeping my eye out for something different-ish to put it on. I was in Bozeman last week and they had a sale going on. 10% off ammo and guns at sportsmans warehouse.
I was snooping around and noticed they had two Howa rifles that were hidden behind the rest that were already topped with Nikko Sterling scopes that were just bare guns. Both were blued with the grippy hogue stocks. One had a green stock and the other black. I asked the guy at the counter to dig them out as I wanted to see what they were chambered in. Turns out they were both chambered in 6.5x55 Sweede.
They had them marked down to $299 plus another 10 off made it $269. I figured I couldn't go wrong.....so the green one made it back to Billings. I found a Blackhawk rail that married the rings to the action.
I finally feel like I actually belong on this site after all these years. : )
I've been reading a lot about the .264/6.5 and it's mostly good. This is a long action cartridge, but relatively short case for that action. I hear the Sweede in factory ammo is relatively "under-powdered", but by hand loading with today's modern rifles it can be faster than the creedmore and .260, and just behind the 6.5-284.
With a 6.5mm bullet @ 140 grains I also read that max speed is not always the best way to get accuracy?
Anyway...............I figure for $700 total with the rings and bases and scope it can't be a bad setup. Anybody have any pet loads for this caliber?
