There are a lot of states the offer exotic hunt opportunities on public land, either by drawing, or a general license. Oryx, Sambar, Sitka, Mouflon....Tell us what you know; what, where, when, etc....

I'll go first.

Florida offers a Sambar Deer hunt on St. Vincent Island in Nov. Drawing. Boat access only. Group apps available.

Huh, isn't the definition of an exotic that it is non-native? Native non-natives is hard to respond to. Texas and New Mexico have public draw hunts for several exotics.

Gunner46, you must be talking about exotics which are on public land and not game farms? None here in Washington, not that I am aware of anyway. In fact there is only one game farm that I know of...I believe it was established before the state made them illegal.

i am pretty sure he means exotics that have been introduced to an area where they have flourished. i cant remember how long exactlly but the free ranging sambar on st vincents island have been there for more that 40 years. the oryx at white sands missle base are adapting so well that they are actually leaving the base and spreading further in new mexico. but i wouldnt look for an open season anytime in the near future. i know maryland has something maybe its sika deer or maybe sitka

Tom, there were rumors of that a few years back but I've never heard of anybody killing one, or even seeing any sign of them. I personally don't believe there was any truth to the rumor, and I don't know how it got started.

A guy at the shooter's forum said this:
"I have heard that the area south of the dam, near the old Grisdale logging camp site, has produced the occasional pig."
Their track is more rounded than a deer track, that's how we tell the difference here. Pretty pointed, its a deer, more rounded, its a hog. Plus, there's routing of the roots where there's hogs, that's a real good sign around here. Find the freshest spots with that and stay there, the hogs will come.

New Mexico as oryx, ibex, and auodad. Utah has mountain goats! ;) Calif. has feral hogs, but it's my understanding that most are on private land.

;) Pointer...we may be getting a "new one" in CA LOL! Where I was hunting a couple of years ago I was stealthin' my way through the thick chit and out of the brush patch (public ground mind you) burst one of those emu's running away at full tilt. Nearly scared the Moosie right out of me

Guess when the "market" went south for those things somebody dumped a few (we've seen them numerous times since) out on the BLM grounds we hunt!

Tom, sure pheasants are exotics but I really don't think Gunner46 is interested in birds. You know, if this state hadn't converted almost all the sharptail and sage grouse's habitat into agricultural lands, we would have native birds to hunt, and wouldn't need exotics. Sure would be nice but not realistic I suppose.

Marv- Jump shooting one of those with 00 buck could be fun!! :D I bet that was on heck of an experience.

Anybody want to know where you can hunt 4 different Exoctics (Axis deer, Mouflon Sheep, Spanish Goats ,& Pigs), Turkeys, and Blacktails, AND take your wife, AND no get any arguments?

EMU????!!!!

True story!! :)

I was driving down US Rt 40 (4 lane), in NC, on my way to my a buddies property to hunt whitetails. Had Shania cranked up pretty good and I'll be a son of a B!&$ch, an Emu was just a stolling along beside the hiway!

Stopped at the 7-11 at the next exit. Called 911. Figured it had escaped a near by farm, or something.

Me :" Yes, I said, I say an EMU walking down Rt 40"

911:" And exactly where are you sir" ?

ME:" Uhh,,, I'm about two miles up the road, from exit XXX."

911: " Can you stay there for us, sir "?

ME: " UHH.... I don't think so".

Hung up and beat feet. :D

i know!! i know!! i bet cali was wishing he thought of that BEFORE he took his vacation last year |oo

Tnctcb- Any of those hogs near the beach??? I'm think the wife needs a vacation and she likes the beach!!! :D

Pointer :) You're right...damn near wet myself with that mini-ostritch came busting out! I don't know what the "rules" would be on bustin' one? Not a game nor native or protected species so I'd assume a guy could pop it? Guess they don't make bad burger.
