My FN Five-Seven exploded

Surgery went well yesterday. Repaired the severed nerves and removed most of the schrapnel. It will be a few weeks until it is determined to what degree the surgery was successful.

Yuck! I'm trying to look for positives about your situation but I'm having a hard time comming up with much other than: Good thing you still have your right hand and part of your left...

That'll take some fancy sewing to put Humpty Dumpty back together again. Grow nerves grow!!

Last week my FN Five-Seven blew up causing severe damage to my left hand (I am right handed). There are 6-8 pieces of shrapnel deep in my thumb and palm area which severed the nerves to my thumb and a portion of my palm. Surgery is required in an attempt to repair the hand by harvesting tissue from my leg. Wish me luck.

The “explosion” occurred on the last round of a 30 round mag loaded with the factory 40gr v-max stuff. On this particular day I only had three loaded magazines (70 rounds total) with me for the Five-Seven but had several other handguns to shoot after the Five-Seven. I began with a 20 round mag loaded with hand loads, then a 20 round mag loaded with factory ammo and finished with the 30 round mag with factory ammo. It was the very last round of 5.7x28 in my immediate possession that ruined my day ……. and a whole lot more!!

I have fired (600-700 rounds) both factory and hand loads through the pistol with zero issues since purchasing new in 2/2011. There are reports of the Five-Seven firing out of battery (OOB) which appears to be the case here but I am no weapons forensics expert. I am not a novice to shooting, handguns or reloading and have 20+ years of extensive experience with shooting and reloading.

I have been completely straightforward with FNH (i.e. Browning) so will now wait and see how they respond.

I had the same thing happen to me today.

Get a lawyer. Shouldn't be any trouble finding one. Advertise for sealed bids.

Just because a guy gets a little bloody and damn sure gets your attention you don't always have to go to the ER.

That's my only thought on how something like this happened. That was my go to pistol and put a pile of rounds through it

Let me get this straight. You had this happen TODAY, signed up here TODAY, and make this your first post? Doesn't sound right to me. Shouldn't you be in the emergency room?
Right?
1. Pics or it didn't happen
2. If it did, I'm sorry
3. Verify your human by checking all the boxes in this thread that have an albino giraffe

A guy doesn't get on forums randomly unless he is trying to learn something. I had one go off in my hand so I googled fn 5.7 blowing up which lead me to this place. Which I have found out I'm not the only guy this may have happened to.

Hot Damn! Glad you are ok. Factory ammo?
My apologies for the snide reply, your first post seemed incredible on a thread thats been hibernating for over a decade..have you ever put the frame in an ultrasonic cleaner or sprayed it down with brake clean, carb clean, or any other chemicals that may have dried out the frame???

Just an adapter plate. Just normal cleaning because it would stove pipe on the first couple rounds randomly if it was dirty. Always just shot American eagle fmj or the fn blue tip ammo. Not a big deal but sucks to lose in my opinion a kinda expensive handgun. It will be interesting to see if fn has some type of warranty. I shoot a lot and never had a rifle or pistol malfunction like this. I just consider I was lucky today, it could have been worse.

My apologies for questioning you. I hope you can understand why I did so. Plenty of bad actors around trying to pass themselves off as legit. Glad you weren't hurt, and welcome to the forum.

It's a $1200+ pistol, I'd definitely reach out to FN and let them know what happened. Worst they can do is tell you to pound sand , and offer you a few free stickers. What optic is that ?
I'll be following this thread ..

The gun looks like that and you didn't lose a finger or more? Were you wearing gloves? I've never had a firearm explode on me, that is scary. Hope I just didn't jinx myself.
