Just a quick recap of my wyoming hunt. Took my dad and 2 boys out on their first western hunt. Ended up with unit 22 doe or fawn tags.
Made it out the day before the opener. Decided to go do some scouting the last few hours of daylight. I was hoping that since opening day was a monday we wouldn't have to put up with to many other hunters. Boy was I wrong.
Opening morning we are out after em. Found the public ground, and found the antelope. Seems like everytime we tried to put a stalk on there was other hunters one step ahead of us. Once I see other hunters I back out. I will not mess up somebody elses hunt. Had one oppurtunity for Devon (my youngest) but the doe was right on the boundary. I suggested we let her walk.
Day 2 our last day most of the hunters disappeared. Its go time now. Its connors turn now (my older boy). I let the boys take off on a stalk. Connor puts one down. While they did that dad walked to the top of a hill just to sit. Well the herd connor just shot one out of made there way right in front if dad. He was waiting for them to stop but over the hill they go.
Now everybody is having a great time. A few more stalks but some missed opportunities and a few right on the border again. I did almost manage to step on a rattler, that got the blood pumping.
Devon spots a few down in a canyon. I turn him loose by himself. Dad decided to go sit on a nearby hill again. I lose track of Devon but I hear a shot. Me and Connor decide to go check it out. As we're walking out there I can see dad ready to shoot. Dad fires off a clean miss. Devon had himself a doe on the ground.
By the time we got Devons cut up and back to the truck it was getting late. We decided that was it for the trip. I shot an antelope last year so eating my tag was just fine with me. As long as dad and the boys had fun thats all that mattered.
