Looking at the diy muzzle loader hawkins style kits. Is accuracy generally the same for them all? Looking for one that would be good for whitetail deer. Seems like they vary in barrel length quite a bit.

Skill level?

Traditions for very easy assembly and not too historically accurate.

Lyman Great Plains rifle for a beginner project.

Track of the Wolf, Sitting Fox, TVM, etc for advanced, fairly authentic projects.

Skill level I would say above average

Not to concerned about historically accurate right now, just want to get started in the traditional muzzle loader. Have shot the in line for a while. Is there a good place to buy these kits? Most places are all out of stock that I find

Try Oldsouthfirearms.com or muzzle-loaders.com. They normally carry a good selection; however, it appears that both are currently out of stock for the Hawkens. The Sportsman's WH store in Tucson normally carries a good supply of kits and powder and accessories. The Traditions Hawken rifle kit is a good starter project. My dad put his together and we went Javelina hunting a few months later. Unfortunately, the little buggers didn't RSVP and we went home empty-handed.
