What they don't want you to know about Duttons.

Spending time with my 8 and 10 year old daughters this weekend reminded me how easy it is to push past the BS.

One minute they hate each other, the next they’re doing each others makeup.

I grew up in an area where fists to the face came before diplomacy. You didn’t keep track of who won or lost but if you stood up for yourself.

I try and catch myself before I get too far down the rabbit hole of defending a position on the internet.

Although I will always welcome a disagreement on my front stoop.

I just got home a couple hours ago. I've been home 2 days of the last 22 days. We have some guys who are helping moderate the forum when I'm on the road. The number of posts and threads that needed to be moderated was more than I cared to deal with. I told them to start putting some people in short-term "time out" until I can get through these threads and posts. Some threads have so many posts to be reviewed that it's easier to just lock the thread.

I fail to understand what it is about the political stuff that attracts people and they start threads that will be very political, or why some people just have to take a good conversation and make it a political discussion. I guess it really doesn't matter why, I just toast the posts, the threads, and sometimes the members who can't have a discussion without a political spin.

Some are challenged to move on from opinions shared, hurt feelers trap them.

I've no problem calling a person out in one thread while agreeing (blue thumb) in another. Same can be said and not said of others.

Move on.

What strikes me the most is when I realize that if I got rid of all the people in my life that I disagree with on many things (including political matters) I would be one lonely SOB. I value the people who can disagree we me in a civil manner and engage probably more than those just like me......we all learn from at least actually listening. The disappointment comes when folks internalize and personalize to the point of name calling and alienation. After this last election I lost a couple of "friends " I have known for 30+ years.......having not changed at all.
