Mt wolf season extension

Very well put Ben. The Montana Wildlife Federation has support our causes in the Root where wolves are concerned 100% on these issues brought up.

The truth seems to be in the fact that many sportsman aren't really interested in harvesting wolves in HD 250. It tough in there. I did see 20 elk there today, with 3 bulls, and at least 4 calves. Cut one wolf track today, and no lions.

kill pups in dens, poison or bait wolves
I wonder if we should ensure we can use these as tools as well...if needs be. It may not sound pretty but may have to be a necessity.

It's really frustrating that they're only attacking 250 this way.
It's great that they're doing the study there, but why they don't realize the same things are going on in the rest of the region baffles me. I guess it makes more sense to wait until we can afford to do one of these studies in each unit before we take action.

It just seems really short sighted to me.

Randy11, what HD you talking about? The area would need to be far below the EMP objective. Many areas have had major reductions in the elk herd, but still at or above the that target number.

Everyone wants to howl about 220 being too low of a number but the reality is that very few people are out looking and trying to kill a wolf. Like Ben said you put the quota at 500 and you're not going to kill anymore than you are currently. Most due to lack of people out hunting them. They were all on board during general season but now it's too much work. I went to the R3 meeting and had to listen to some clown that was bashing FWP on the management of wolves. A biologist in front of me leans over and says I bet he hasn't even tried to go hunt them and the season is still on. So true. Pat Flowers is a saint for listening to these kill them all folks. It's not like FWP has it all figured out in basically their first full season of management.

Last I knew they were about something like 60-70 percent of the EMP goal. I can't find any recent counts on the website though. The EMP goal is a giant load of crap though. When they came up with it (2004?) the numbers were already artificially low where I hunt, half of what they were in the early nineties. And of course, the EMP calls to keep them at those ridiculously low numbers.

In my uneducated opinion, I think there's maybe 20 percent of what the area could comfortably handle.
