MT residents thoughts on Steve Bullock

If he truly believes these things he is in the wrong party. Switch parties where it could be discussed.
I find this disconcerting...I believe Bullock is in the perfect party and is bringing the correct discussion to the mix. Hopefully, a few Republicans can get on board within their party and have similar discussions that will change their platform. I'm becoming more irritated with "my party only stands for..." or "to be apart of this party, you have to stand for...". What makes you mad RockyMtnMT is that "your party" isn't doing what Bullock's party is...which goes against your agenda of the "other party" being wrong.

That is pure gold.

Unbridled socialism has never worked. Neither has unbridled capitalism.

Theodore Roosevelt had the mix about right when he went on to bust the trusts. FDR had it right when he pushed for the New Deal. What is funny to me is that folks with hard-line conservative & libertarian beliefs refuse to admit that their policies could have been instituted all along, but it took gov't action to bring them about (SSI, Medicare, etc) while the Hard-line leftists and social democrats think that by eliminating all incentive to make a profit will bring about an equitable utopia.

It takes a pretty solid mix. We had that at one point, but now we revert to party over principle and party over compromise. Our parties are held captive by the intransigent voices of failed policies, yet we continue to skulk around and blame the other guy, rather than attending to the timber in our own eyes.

I remember Ben once also advocating that the USA should nationalize our oil production.;) Bad idea!

If you want truly energy security and independence for America, why would you support sending that energy overseas so highly subsidized (SOCIALISM!) energy companies can make profit rather than keep it home so Americans can profit off of the low prices and surplus gas/oil?

Why do you hate America? ;)

Here's link to a good NYT  article to help Straight Arrow understand how Venezuela got into the situation that they are now in.:)

Thank-you, BHR. That is a good explanatory article. My point does not differ, in that the "government" referred to in the article is the oligarchy of elitists, certainly not making sound decisions on behalf of the people and through a representative democracy. Whether Maduro and his cronies were acting in concert with ideology and/or somehow to profit themselves, the end result has been the economic disaster.

A President Sanders or Warren might try to nationalized our oil industry. A President Bullock surely would not. What a hater! ;)

I thought they were trying to eliminate the industry altogether in favor of fairy farts & unicorn kisses? I wish people would stick to one conspiracy theory.

Whether it's a rational long term plan for Colstrip or a larger strategy concerning fossil fuels, I am confident that Governor Bullock would favor a more pragmatic and realistic approach ... avoiding the references to aft expelled rainbow flatulence and unicorn smooches.

I had a government teacher in high school that explained to our class that every government in history had failed, or was going to fail, ours included. He said that if you look at history, governments fail for the same reason. Doesn't matter which brand, they all fail because of corruption.

It occurs to me that instead of bickering amongst ourselves over the virtues of capitalism, or socialism, our time would be better spent trying to figure out how to ward off corruption. Bullock's fight against dark money in the elections stands out to me as one of the best efforts out there to curb corruption.

Bullock has zero chance of winning the nomination. That is just a fact, to spend a single minute thinking what he would do or not do if he were president is a minute of useless mental exercise that leads nowhere.

I agree, just like the time that we spend thinking about hunting for fun. It is all a frivolous expenditure of our precious time.

I for one have been involved in much more frivolous discussions than this one ... even on this forum. You are likely correct that chances of his nomination are remote ... however I predict he will end up vying for some top governance position eventually, so it is productive for Hunttalkers and others to know who he is, what he has accomplished, and what he may offer to be considered.

I don’t think he ever intended to get the nomination. In fact I’m sure there is a strategy behind the decision. For whatever his intentions are to further his career as a politician.
