MT - Changes in Hunting Regs/Units/Seasons coming this month

I’m not speaking for MOGA, but…something needs to change and as strange as this may sound, Eric and I have been discussing this and we are on the same page as many of you. We need to address the resident situation with OTC tags, we need to fight against changing the LQ elk areas over to general, and we need to focus on mule deer management. I spoke with a commissioner today and voiced my opinion strongly against the muzzleloader debacle as well as other topics. So there it is in writing.
Haha. Fair enough. And thanks for posting that. I appreciate it. Ideally we’d all be fighting against this trash together.

But look at the bright side, you can put that pound of powder on your ass and call up Barry White .

What’s MOGA’s stance on these topics? Inquiring minds would like to see it in writing. 🤔
I don't know that I would be celebrating if I was an outfitter. Easy to get tags is only going to increase competition for leases from out of state hunt clubs and people looking to buy a hunting ranch. As the quality of public land hunting decreases more resident hunters will also jump into the leasing game. Hard for an outfitter to compete when you have other expenses like insurance, marketing and a payroll. Only way you can make up for that is to take more clients an many landowners will not tolerate and increase. Could well be a lose for both the public land hunter and the outfitter in the long run.

Haha. Gatekeeper I like your fire and you probably get with it but seriously attacking Greenhorn is misplaced. You started it by calling everyone out for being whiny sniveling wimps instead of acknowledging the problems. The hunters on here having been doing what your doing to the tune of multi-centuries of combined knowledge. Keep on topic or start a new thread. We can't afford to have this one locked.

People that have been on here awhile know that attacking Greenhorn is a good way to be humbled.

It would be nice to have the public support of some bigger conservation organizations on this one. For example, maybe one dedicated to elk conservation.
Doesnt look like that's gonna happen... I've talked to them multiple times and their excuse is that they were lacking a government relations person to deal with the issues this past session. Apparently all those bills weren't blatantly bad enough and only the government relations person was qualified to tell the rmef bunch how to think about them. All that elk habitat they buy won't be much good if there's barely any elk around and/or it's impossible to get a tag.

Can you and Eric get Mac to make a statement regarding this? Him and Randy talked about working together on that podcast episode....now would be an opportune time.

What else can we do besides show up to these meetings to stop this. Like some others on here have said, seems like more then I expected were actually happy about this idea.

Its like credit cards, buy now pay later. instead its shoot em all now and have nothing later. If this is the case i really hope they limit the # of hunters that can get a general license. Otherwise people will be coming out of the wood work. Wouldnt want to be a elk or Deer right now

I'm not sure if some are just jaded because they've been doing it so long or maybe they're just plain old right. But I'm getting the impression from some of them that nothing can be done. The cards have been dealt, the votes have been counted, public comment will be ignored, and the "fight" will all be in vain. Any ideas otherwise are foolish or naive.

Big Fin laid it out on like page 7 or 8. Contact the governors office, contact the director, contact the commission. Submit your public comments when you can. Show up to the open houses and public meetings. That's the basics. Got to overwhelm them with opposition. Some are jaded because they been at this a long time. And the hits just keep coming.

Easy to get jaded. Think of guys like Pos, Tony Schoonen Sr, the Jacks, etc who have been at this for 50 plus years. There's a fountain of hope out there in our elders, as well as a fountain of wisdom. If they gave up because they were tired of the same fights, we'd not have stream access, access to state lands or any of the hundreds of good things that have been regardless of who sits in the Gov's office, or is in power at the legislature.

Citizens can change bad courses. This is not much different. The key is to not give up and remember why you fight for what you do.

Add on top of this, contact your local legislator and county commissioners. Those folks hear from the other side of this equation all the time. Let them hear from you as well.

Then get 10-20 of your friends to do the same.
