Well, I guess the moral of this story is that persistance will eventually pay off:) I hunted this bear 5 nights over a period of almost two weeks. He was always just a little smarter than me as he would aways come out and show himself about 9 pm which is not enough time to get to him at nearly 2 miles away. Fin can easily vouge for the two miles too:D

So Tuesday night, we hike in and hit our glassing spot. Sure enough, 9 pm rolls around and here he is, 1.8 miles from us. We know its not enough time but the three of us study him for a bit and all decide he is a shooter. Watched him for about 20 min till too dark to see him anymore.

Wednesday night, Drake4 and I hit the glassing knob again. 8:50 he shows himself at 1.6 miles. We say screw it, lets try it:) Well, after a long run down one side, a nearly swim across the drink, and 2,000 yards up the other side, we ran out of light! DAMMIT.
And not only that, it was a LOOOONG way back to the truck.

I now have a real thing against this bear, its 4 nights of finding him, and no connection yet. Bear hunting with a vengeance now;)

Last night, Fiver, Drake 4 , and I hit the knob again....at 8 pm, Drake (bear spotter extrodinaire) say, there he is! I just smiled and said, well, he is giving me the time to get there tonight, so Zach (Fiver) and I bailed after him. 1.6 miles, down, across the creek, and up the other side. The bear ended up moving into the timber when we were about 1000 yards. We decided we didn't have much time but we better go in after him. Slowly moving through, we knew we were close to the last sighting when he stood up 30 yards in front of me.......i think he was laying, sleeping, or something. I knew i had about 1 second before he bolted so sizing him up wasn't an option....I figured i had already committed myself to this bear so it will be whatever it will be...............Pulled trigger and that was that..... Was neat though to have 5 nights of history with this bugger, I finally got the last trick in.

A BIG thanks to Drake4, after he shot his bear, he spent every night going with me to help glass with me. He even let me use his super fancy 1,000 yard gun so i could shoot this bear at a whopping 30 yards:D lol

Also, like always, thanks to Zach. Bout time you got to pack one of my animals out for once:D lol

Looks like a good one...and well earned! I have to ask though, was he not popping out in "about" the same area everynight? Could you have saved some anguish and been waiting for him there at 8 or so instead of running the 1.8 miles??

No, the last two nights were literally the same spot. The other times, over half mile difference. THe only good place to see the whole hillside is where we were............trust me, we thought of how to be closer but there just wasn't a good option. In fact, had we gone to sit where he came out any one of the times, we would have never seen him any of the rest of the times..........

Sometimes you just have to play the hard way:)

and thanks guys!

Also had a third guy that participated two of the nights and helped out with spotting, thanks to him for that.....

Where are the nipple shots so we know it is dry?;)

I can't hardly look at these bear threads in the spring because of the lack of bear hunting down here.

Wondering who the first was going to be to fire that one:D I was expecting some harassment at FWP today but actually wasnt bad, although they clearly recognized me......

Sounds like you guys might be getting spring bear soon or did i hear just an ugly rumor??

I thought about going down there with him to check it in. It's always fun to see a Hunttalker on the FWP's ten most wanted list:D Actually though if you hang around guys like him they soon put you on the watch list. Kind of like Bin laden and his cronies ;)

Yea, its great when both your hunting buddys ask you to take them home before going to check in your stuff...................uh, sorry dude, don't want to be seen with you at FWP:):)

Nice bear. You put your time in for that one. Size?

Doesn't look that big until the shot of it on your back, then it looks huge...
Glad you connected with a good one, you definitely deserve it after all the bears you've been passing.
