As much as it pains me to say this, but after reading through the Robie Creek thread Moosie is doing everything right with getting prepared for this race. I do not know him and he has not paid me to say this. If there is anyone out there that says that "I am too old, or too far out of shape to work out", Moosie has show us that even a middle aged washed up man can get back into shape. If you say that you don`t have the time. Moosie has 5 kids and a beautiful wife. How should he have time? Here are some of the things that I noticed that he has done perfectly that will help others. I am actually going to be serious:
1. Get an Excel Spreadsheet to show your progress. Week to week and day by day of distance, endurance, weight. Another one that I do is a yearly spreadsheet of my cholesterol (good and bad), Triglycerides, etc. Once you notice the lbs coming off and your blood counts improving you feel better by noticing your endurance improving it will motivate you.
2. Set a goal- Once you notice how benificial working out can be set a goal (ie. a particular race-date, or even a hunt). That will motivate you to constantly improve to try to meet your goal.
3. Have a rival that may be a few states away that could whip your butt if the oppotunity arises (ie IdahoBuggler):D. It is so easy to talk trash when they are so far away but it helps you to remember that you will be in the same race and facinity and you better be able to run faster to keep them from catching you in a race or not.

If you hop on a treadmill with nothing to compare your improvements, you will quit! Men are goal oriented and without goals you will fail.

These were just some of my observations. I`ve noticed the weight coming off (on the chart)and his distance improving.

Only thing that I have seen that I would not recommend is to run through a McD`s drive-thru on a race and go throught the finish line holding a BigMac.;)

If he were to have his own workout vid. I just wonder what attire he would wear...disturbing!

You know you're 100% right. IDBugler and me both give each other a Ration of crap off the board as well but both know he's in better shape. We're in the same town so I don't talk TOO much crap  I like taking someone that is better then me and trying to get better by using them as a benchmark. Likewise. Bugler wouldn't have done the training he did if it wasn't for me talking crap.

A workout partner was/is key for me too. I have a buddy that goes at 5AM to the gym and I've been going with him. Many a morning I get up just not to let him down. It sucks gonig early to the gym, but I just don't have much time else to do it. Other peopel say they don't have the Time then watch 1 hr of TV.....

I started out slower as well. I didn't start out lifting weights and my distances have been going up because I'm tracking them. If I skip 2 days in a row I feel guilty. I am gonig to start doing weights in 2 weeks when our race is over now that I'm working up.

I also post my week here every week and think "CRAP", If I didn't do that I wouldn't go to the today.... or tomorrow. Not that I care what you guys think, but I do, know what I mean ? It keeps me honest :D

As far as my outfit, I'm sure some here have some pictures of me that I've posted that would scare the average work out person :p :p

Thanks for the SLAM, and kind words !! ;)

Oscar talks the truth when he said I wouldn't have trained for this if he hadn't been talking crap. I guess I'm a guy that gets motivated when anything gets competitive. Like Oscar I too feel guilty when I miss a workout or eat a hamburger (yep Osc thats a jab at you). :)

We also both know there are different levels of "better shape" and I will admit Oscar is in way better Cardio shape then I am. It will be interesting race day and hopefully this cold I have will go away before then :(.

Good job Oscar and thanks for pushing me a little. I really needed that.

I also feel guilty when I skip a day or eat something that I am not suppose to. I always say, "well, this will take 4 miles of running to get rid of if I eat it." I know that if I were to skip 2 or 3 days, which I don`t, I loose alot of motivation and almost quit altogether. I will slow down on Sunday and just run a mile or two and that is it.

HAHAHA.... I wasn't going to use my "I have this cold" excuse till next Thursday. Never use up the excuse too soon. Rookie mistake !!!!

Unlike you Healthy eating Bastages I dont' feel very guilty eating. Prolly should, but I don't. I have felt guilty skipping workouts because I know there is no time to make those up. I ate my 3/4# Buffalo burger with Fries and pop from Fudruckers yeserday and Wendy's Ultimate Bacon burger the day before. I have cut a few days out of eating out a week but If I have to train AND eat Grass food I'll take the bullet now :p

I will continue to eat a little better as it goes. I would like to be running the Iron Man at 205# (ish). But I won't give up Real food for Protien shakes and salads.

IDB, Your wife will thank me to for putting some Longevity in your "SPRINTS"..... Sometimes it's better to "run" a little longer then a short sprint, but thats another topic for another day ..... :hump:
