As much as it pains me to say this, but after reading through the Robie Creek thread Moosie is doing everything right with getting prepared for this race. I do not know him and he has not paid me to say this. If there is anyone out there that says that "I am too old, or too far out of shape to work out", Moosie has show us that even a middle aged washed up man can get back into shape. If you say that you don`t have the time. Moosie has 5 kids and a beautiful wife. How should he have time? Here are some of the things that I noticed that he has done perfectly that will help others. I am actually going to be serious:
1. Get an Excel Spreadsheet to show your progress. Week to week and day by day of distance, endurance, weight. Another one that I do is a yearly spreadsheet of my cholesterol (good and bad), Triglycerides, etc. Once you notice the lbs coming off and your blood counts improving you feel better by noticing your endurance improving it will motivate you.
2. Set a goal- Once you notice how benificial working out can be set a goal (ie. a particular race-date, or even a hunt). That will motivate you to constantly improve to try to meet your goal.
3. Have a rival that may be a few states away that could whip your butt if the oppotunity arises (ie IdahoBuggler)
. It is so easy to talk trash when they are so far away but it helps you to remember that you will be in the same race and facinity and you better be able to run faster to keep them from catching you in a race or not.
If you hop on a treadmill with nothing to compare your improvements, you will quit! Men are goal oriented and without goals you will fail.
These were just some of my observations. I`ve noticed the weight coming off (on the chart)and his distance improving.
Only thing that I have seen that I would not recommend is to run through a McD`s drive-thru on a race and go throught the finish line holding a BigMac.
If he were to have his own workout vid. I just wonder what attire he would wear...disturbing!
