Moose - Lets see em!

Back from the taxidermist. What a chore to get it inside the house. I thought we were going to have to pull the door frame, but finally found a door and a way to turn the head and horns to get it inside.

First picture is stretched on the form at the taxidermist, then waiting in the garage before we could get it into the house...

Not bad for the wrong unit. Looks great! @shrapnel

So does moose in your yard count ? We have moose daily when the snow gets deeper. And now we raise rabbits so we have hay around. In the last photo the calf had injured itself early trying to get over our 5' fence around our yard following it's mama. The calf could not walk much but managed to get to where it was. Then we had a mad stressed out mama to deal with. Wildlife sent an officer over to assess. Wildlife get hurt, later that day they wandered off n a bunch of other critters had supper.
I've had to call our chessy off of a mad moose 5' away with a little fence between them, both on full out go ! Got to get up close n personal enough to give a bull moose a pedicure one night while cutting it out of our neighbors fence. I watched our jack Russell get stomped 3 times. Typical J R.
Driving to town you see moose. I enjoy n respect them . Enjoy seeing them. And learning to live near them

Things are getting pretty serious with all the members shooting moose this year. Time for a refresh on this thread.

Just because I'm always trying to actively judge AK moose for the 50/4 brow rule, mind sharing your widths? I don't see 4 clear brows on either bull so that part is out for judging.

I get the first bull you posted as being borderline 50 based on that photo. Paddles are wide enough to make a person start to think about it but I don't see quite enough tine going out past the paddles. I'd guess in the 48-52 range.

For the bottom photo, I'm shooting him knowing full confident he is 50 wide. Those two first points on the paddle really shoot out sideways and the widest distance looks to be between those two points. I'd guess he is in the 58-65 range.

Am I even close?

I would trade all my western DEA preference points if I could just keep doing this every year. Too bad that ship sailed away into the sunset with Ontario's STUPID politics and ideas on "Moose management". Moose hunting, walleye fishing, remoteness...I miss it greatly.

All these moose threads this year have me getting an itchy Newfoundland moose hunt trigger finger. I think I'm probably priced out of Alaska while my dad is young enough to really enjoy it. But not Newfoundland.
