Conservation groups claim Davison endorsement misleading
HELENA – Conservation groups are crying foul over “Sportsmen for Davison” – a new political group of outdoor enthusiasts who support GOP candidate for governor Pat Davison and profess to belong to various hunting and fishing organizations.
Two groups – Montana Trout Unlimited and the Montana Wildlife Federation – say some people in Sportsmen for Davison are not even members of their organizations, but claim to be in Davison political literature.
The situation is especially troubling to Montana Trout Unlimited because that organization was in a costly lawsuit over Montana’s streamside access law brought by a conservative organization on which Davison serves as board of director.
