With pick your region, pick your species we will begin to get a handle on #’s of hunters and where the problems are.
I’m hopeful we can find a way to keep from going LE permits for a few more years.
I’m genuinely amazed at how narrow sighted and fearful of change. I don’t hunt the Gallatin, but can’t imagine that ending the rut hunt wouldn’t be beneficial within 2 years. I’m guessing there must be some country above the timberline that could be hunted early.

Private should get tags. Who gives a shit if they sell them. Use them. Non resident give them 20 percent tags. But 15 percent of that through outfitters. The rest public residents. We all know it is $$$$$$. For outfitters, landowners. They use opurtunity as an excuse for it. Even though residents that hunt public land are the biggest advocates for change

Politicaly correct. Let's hunt deer in October. Chase all the elk to private. Give a shit load of tags out still. So the public will still suck for deer and worse for elk. Landowners, outfitters, non resident get what they want.

Make it fwp law LE. Could be 5 to 3000 tags. Manage the herd. Land owner preference. They should get tags. Sell them use them who cares. Non res. Give them 20 percent tags. Are you willing to only hunt deer once every three years? That’s what you are looking at if you want to go LE across the whole state at a level of tag allocation that make a significant biological difference.

LE means someone or a lot of someones aren’t hunting each year.

We all know that resident hunters would raise as big (or bigger) a stink about that as MOGA.

If you want to push the boulder of statewide LE up the political hill of Montana social acceptance write your own proposal and take it to the FWP commission. You can even start your own thread and discuss it here. Please share your experience and success with how that goes for you.

Some good intentions on this thread.....BUT with a Commission largely made up of large landowners and outfitters the real options at this point are limited to those which will benefit large landowners and outfitters. No joe blow average sportsmen are represented.

And a Governor who appointed the Commission and apparently has higher political ambitions will not want to willingly take on any issue that might cause him backlash by any number of hunters.

Saying, structure the mule deer hunt in October. There will be no significant change on public land. Too many hunters shoot everything that moves. So it has to be actually managed. LE for everything. October mule deer hunt push all the $*)Q!#@$ elk to private before they hunted. Prior to pressure of archery hunt. The border herds which are protected by private unless u pay. Which is a good thing because some bulls survive the orange army. But bad because the elk go to private sanqiieries and hide. Which elk numbers are high because landowners don't allow hunting unless u pay. But profit off of blm and fwp because the state is responsible for elk numbers which are dictated by cattle. Which is a total ****ery of public lands.
