Nope, I don't know. One guy climbed up the mountain, grabbed an ATV, then came down and started hauling the bull back up the mountain. I called who I thought was the landowner, but turned out to be the wife of the neighboring landowner. Later in the day, I called the husband and he said his neighbor was not home that weekend and the hunters were now gone.
 
Great episode Randy! You may not have time right now, but I was wondering if you could explain what you look for on Google Earth to find a "bull nest" as you put it? It looked like you knew right where to go to find them.
 
Really well done episode. Enjoyed the hunt details, the cinematography, and of course an action filled hunt.

There was mention of 168 E-tips from a 308 Win. Have you actually chrono'd those from the Howa? The 200gr .338 is on my list to try this fall and it would likely be a similar velocity so any comments on penetration, how well they open, and internal damage would be appreciated. Beyond the obvious excellent results of course!

Edit: never mind on the bullet question. I just saw the video linked above.

This is my favorite of all your videos so far Randy. Crazy action filled hunt with a great message and documentation of tresspass.

The hunt was a post-rut hunt in Late October. Post rut bulls are in sanctuary mode. Distance and topography provide sanctuary, as does private land. In this case, I knew most the pressure was on one side of the mountain range, due to where most the roads were. We hiked in about three miles, where I knew there was sanctuary, a large part of which was provided by private land. There was good food everywhere, so that was not an issue. Water is more scarce, so I picked an area where I knew they could water at a big cattle tank I saw from an aerial view. That is was they did.

It doesn't always work that well, but in this case it worked perfect.

This video explains more about Post-rut locations. I know what their needs are in post-rut, so all I need to do is locate the spots where they can satisfy those needs and my odds of finding elk go up dramatically.

I have a friend with a chrono. We were getting around 2,745 if you average them, with not much variation at all.

Penetration was great. First hit was a complete pass through. You can see him bleeding at the point of impact when I am lining for the second shot. The first shot was 195 yards, based on what we ranged following the chaos.

The second shot was 309 yards. It hit perfectly in the front shoulder pocket, destroyed the heart and was recovered from just under the skin on the opposite shoulder. Here is a pic of what it looked like when recovered.

My kids and I just watched it. Great episode! Thanks for sharing. Did anything ever come out of the guys who trespassed and killed that other bull?
 
What a GREAT episode. I have been SO SOURED on tv hunting shows that I can no longer watch due to the solid 30 minutes of advertising.

This had to be the quickest 22 minutes of hunting that I've experienced. Certainly has left me wanting more.

The emotions of this hunt came through very clear...lowest of lows and highest of highs. It was GREAT!

Thank you for sharing Randy...I certainly appreciated your video.

Thanks for the info! I had not seen that video. Finding elk is always the hardest thing for us non-residents. Anything that we could do to help find them faster would be a great asset.
