I recently acquired my grandfather's Model 12 that he had. Never did anything with it until now when I decided I wanted to shoot a rabbit with it. I've had a problem opening the action with it and today I removed the trigger assembly and cleaned it as best as I could without taking it down any more. Plenty of junk in there but it still didn't make any difference. I just can't get the button up enough for it to release. When it IS open I can hold the release up and pump like mad and it moves freely with the slide pulled back. Close the action and it doesn't work. I'm not really planning on shooting it anytime soon and will hang it up on the wall to display but I wouldn't mind having it work correctly for the day it goes to my daughter. Anything I can do or is it a gunsmith issue?

Not my picture but it shows what I have going on. The two "points" hit and stop the slide release lever from moving. I can pull the forearm forward all I want but it makes no difference. When assembled and dry fired a push forward of the forearm releases the latch as it should and I can pump the action. Something out of time? A broken spring somewhere? Above my pay grade to disassemble.

I had one with the same issue. Take it apart and clean it. It might suck to put it back together, but you will figure it out if you have access to YouTube. I did and I'm differently abled.

Yeah, I'm going to hold off on that for now. I sprayed and hit what I could with the brush and wiped it all down. It's 95 years old and probably in better shape than I am but I'm not that brave to take the trigger apart.

Yeah, dont take the trigger apart, just the other stuff that will have you cussing like a sailor in 5 minutes flat.

Yep. Had a hell of a time keeping a bar lined up right to get the assembly slid back into the receiver.
