I can see why the wealthy and properly insured like this system, but ultimately, the majority isn't as fortunate.

Yeah, but they're not going to countries with socialized healthcare systems, the vast majority of medical tourist travel is for cosmetic surgery or procedures that are simply not approved in the US.

It's not so much that they're not approved, well sort of, it's that they're not covered by insurance and can be done cheaper elsewhere for cash. A number of our patients have traveled abroad to get services done. Many of them double up with already existing work travel to further lower their costs.

Good point, my point was that they're not traveling to take advantage of a socialized med system, rather reduced costs. My wife is a provider and has plenty of beef with the the insurances too.

If you cannot afford healthcare then it is rationed to you.

2 of my cancer meds were $3k & $7k...per month.
Now both are free and paid for by Medicare. Full pop I imagine.
One was $35 a month 2 years ago.

The fact that medicine gets to blatantly/wildly discriminate it's prices depending on how youre paying - cash, Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance is another big problem in addition to lack of price transparency. That's not at all how a market system works...

We have all the drawbacks of a capitalistic and socialist style healthcare. The working class pays the rip off insurance rates, medicial bills, and taxes to hold up the entire thing.

Too much of the costs we pay go to administration of an overly complicated system. Hell, most hospitals hire people to help patients navigate the system and fill out the paperwork- insurance or otherwise.

The ability to negotiate prices lower is going away. People will be so happy when the in-network cost of aspirin will be zero but out-of-network will be $8. Americans are getting screwed, they just don’t understand how they are getting screwed and by whom. That is the joy of the complexity of the system.

Expanding the tax credit for being in the exchange has taken out insurance payment from $800/no for 2 people to $185 for the same plan in two years.

Bro, I know I've had a few beers but I literally don't understand any of this.

I could literally just fall down stairs drunk, get hurt, my wife calls the ambo and I go to the hospital and worst case scenario I'm down a few big ones for the ride to the hospital. That's it.

Healthcare shouldn't be that complicated.

I think the whole social construct of caring for you and your weakest is pretty dope.

Anyway, I've had too many beers and shots tonight and that's just how I feel things should be.
