I hate to do it, but I'll skip opening night. I stood outside with my daughter for the last one for two and a half hours at -27, and didn't get in.
I'm afraid we'll be waiting for the matinees- they usually aren't as busy.
By all the reviews, it's awesome, and relatively faithful to the book (e.g., VERY long goodbyes..)

i dunno, they have made some quite unacceptable strays from the book. for example, Arwen saves frodo from the wraiths? what the heck happened to glorfindel!? What the heck happened to Tom Bombadil?

They origionally planned to have arwen fighting at helms deep, but fortunatly they had so much negative feedback, that they decided not to. Go thing they deid, because I would have not even watched it.

Oregon, I was disappointed by the loss of Bombadil, too, but I completely understand his absence. To this day people still discuss exactly who (or what) Bombadil was, and in the many volumes of T's notes there's not a single thing to clarify it. What's more, when you get down to brass tacks, the only thing that the adventure with Bombadil & the Old Forest contributed to the story is that they came out of it armed.

In the movie they took care of that by having Aragorn provide them with arms, so what would adding the whole Bombadil thing serve except to add another 1/2 hour to the movie?

The Arwen thing...well, they wanted a stronger chick character for the first movie, and that's what they did. I thought I would be mad about it, especially given their choice of actresses, but Liv Tyler did a suprisingly credible job and I found myself enjoying it.

I'd rather look at her than some made-up blonde-headed beach bum, anyway.

My goodness, but Fireside does stray from the Path of Moosie sometimes.

The Premiere was on here two weeks ago. a lot of the sceens were shot within a mile of our house, Rivendell and Helms deep and Where Arwen has Frodo over her saddle is my favourite fishing spot

first read the trilogy in 1970 while sailing around the South China Sea aboard an Aircraft Carrier. have re-read them every three years scince then. never get tired of reading them. will be in line this wed. night. if you have the oppertunity to buy the exstended version on CD there is a lot of scenes in there that was not in the movie.

I guess in order to see that one I would have had to see the other waht 2 movies. My friends saw them and wanted me to go but i had better things to do. Oh well hope y'all enjoy it.
Quick Draw

Going to see these films has been my birthday treat for the last two years and will be again this year. It has been a treat because when your birthday is Christmas Eve, there isn't a heck of a lot else to do. What am I going to do next year?

Why, Mo, you'll go see the 3rd Harry Pooper flick, of course! You know, the one they postponed because it couldn't compete with LOTR?
