My old lab/shorthair cross has been showing signs of old age. She, "Lu", is ten yrs. old and her hips are not what they were when she was young. Anyway, I will be looking for a new Labrador pup in the spring. It would be good to start a new dog while my "Lu" can still hunt for a couple more seasons. I am not interested in a show dog, a field trial dog, just a meat dog. My preference would be a small female Labrador. Color, no preference. Just a good meat dog who will have a good life and be spoiled rotten. She will be trained, hunted for upland, waterfowl, sheds and just all around fun. I am not into field trials or competition. Can anyone guide me to a good breeder that produces meat hunters?

My dogs come from here http://www.betsieriverlabs.com/ Exceptional, small, american style, hard hunting Labradors. Last I knew there were a couple small females left from one of Jones' last litters but that was a couple months ago. Jones is my Chase's sire. Chase is 50 lbs of pure muscle and drive. I will be breeding him sometime in the next couple years if I can find a suitable female out here in MT. I am very picky.

Rat, I was so picky in choosing a hunting bitch (by hunting I mean all waterfowl in all conditions, dove, quail and pheasant) to breed Ol Abe too that he never got any and now at 11+ doesn't produce enuff semen....screwed up, I think!

I got my lab from Hill Country Hunting labs in Wimberly, Texas. This was my first bird dog and my first foray into training. Her natural hunting instincts overcame my shortcomings as a trainer. Her first season she retrieved over 100 doves and around 30 ducks. I highly recommend this kennel and he will ship anywhere.

My brother in law breeds and trains labs. It is more of a passion/hobby of his than a business. He will train, or not train, them to what ever level you specify. I think he doesn't charge near enough for the work and time that he puts into them. But like I said, he just loves to do it and doesn't want it to become more business than pleasure. He does one litter a year.

He just got back from deployment and I think that he is planning a litter in the spring. The only thing that might not fit your request is the size. His stud (Gauge) is a rather large chocolate lab. He lives in Wichita Falls, Tx (North Texas), so you could sent No Harley over to check em out. If you want contact info, PM me and I'll send it along. Good luck on your search.

I appreciate all that have answered my request. I am not in the market for a started lab. I have trained many for obedience and to nurture their natural hunting instincts. I will keep all information on file for reference. Hope to get more responses to this request to make an informed decision in my quest for a new hunting Labrador retriever. MTG

Google labs of cottonhollow in rigby idaho. One of the best dogs i have owned. My yellow will do anything.
