Loadin' 'em whole: a question

While I always quarter and pack out here in Wyoming, if you hunt the back 40 you don't want your small chunk of land becoming a deer graveyard. Another reason a lot of people back east load them whole.

i also have used the “deerduster” method one year.

HF also has blue tarps, cheap. Wrap, ratchet strap, and go. If the tarp gets muddy, bloody or whatever, just throw it away and have new ones on hand.

It's a piece of cake with a sled. Lift one end up on the tail gate and then go to the other end and push it in. The sled is great for dragging even on dry ground.

I was looking at some sleds in the hardware store a couple of days ago when picking up ammo and I think one model would fit on my hitch carrier. It would be easy enough to wrap deer and sled in a tarp before lifting it onto carrier in this fashion. Thanks for passing that tip along! I think it will work very well.

The “Viking Solutions” hitch carrier tilts for easy loading. Also can get wheels and an ATV hitch for it.

A word of warning about hitch carriers: do NOT buy the fold up model and expect to carry a deer on it. I know it's rated for 500 lbs but watch out! Those put the load out way too far from the hitch. I guess the idea is one is supposed to be able to walk between the carrier and bumper when mounted. Two years ago I brought out a big buck on one of those and when I hit a dip in the road at edge of town, the leverage broke the hitch. A welder fixed the hitch, chopped out the fold up section in the carrier bracket, moved the basket up to the bumper, and welded it solid. It has held up fine since then.
