Do liner socks help prevent blisters? My last 6 plus pairs of boots rub heel blisters even after break in. I always wear mid to heavy weight wool socks. How can I stop getting blisters?

Liner socks can help. You may want to change how you lace your boots. Look up how to lock in the heel. I do this on my hunting boots and it works well.

I agree, your foot must be moving to much in your boot or your sizing is wrong. I also wear a wick sock under my wool sock.

Duct tape on the spot that gets blisters and then a liner sock works great IME. I can't imagine getting a blister with that setup. And I have some experience with blisters... ;)

I wear them & find what works lacing up different boots as stated.
I find they shrink from XL to small in one wash & can be a pain to get on tho....I'm always stretching out socks to get them on.
I wear merino wool socks year round but only wear liners if I am hiking or hunting...usually.
It's important to get socks set comfortable on your feet before pulling the boots on or you will have problems soon after.

To me liner socks shine the most earlier in the season when my feet are sweating the most.

If my feet aren't sweating I probably don't need to be wearing liner socks.

I wear a liner sock under a heavy cushion merino wool blend sock with my boots in all weather conditions. Blisters are never a problem, as long as the boot fits. When I am looking at new boots, I bring in my own sock system and try them on that way to ensure a proper fit.

Whenever people mention wearing multiple pairs of socks I cringe... if everything fits correctly and you are wearing the correct sock you should be able to get by with just a single pair. Check out Kuiu's socks, they have extra padding around the areas that tend to slide so you get a good fit. Also make sure you are really cranking on your laces around your instep that should keep your heel from moving.

Also I tend to think minor blistering is normal, it takes a while to get your feet in shape for hiking. Even if you put 50 miles in a pair of boots if you haven't been doing any hiking for six months you are going to get blisters until the calluses on your feet build up again.

As someone already suggested, duct tape over the area you get the blisters. Or as many others have found, Leuko Tape. I use the Leuko tape in addition to the Kenetrek Ultimate Liner socks.

Thank you for all the replies! im going to try some different lacing techniques. with lightweight hikers blisters have never been a problem. but with any type of mountaineering or semi mountaineering boot i havent been able to eliminate blisters. yet.

This +1. Used "heel lock" lacing for the first time this season and a pair of 7 year old boots felt brand new.

Yes,

they make all the difference in the world. My feet sweat bad and because of that my smart wool socks would get wet and I would get blisters. Once I went to poly pro liners it went all away. I wear them anytime I am hunting, hiking regardless of temperatures. Wicks all the moisture and away. I have found the best ones at REI
