Lead Free Bullets

Will there never come an end to the banner waving, mis-directed and socially frustrated idiots out there who can find nothing better to do with their time than to worry about protecting us from ourselves? Everyone in the rural part of where I grew up were avid hunters of squirrels, rabbit, quail, dove, raccoon, deer, turkey, duck, goose and pretty much anything which was game and edible. We ate them, we clinched our fishing sinkers to the line with our teeth, we handled lead in many ways, and I know of no one who has ever suffered any medical conditions from lead. Now we are restricted to one or two servings of bass and pickerel per month from our rivers and lakes due to excessive mercury originating from coal fired power plants. Perhaps they should concentrate their efforts there. No, can't do that or the Thunder Basin and Powder River Valley will be shut down. Maybe we should all just chew on our bullets and hope to die early, thus releasing us from our misery leaving the country for the more intelligently enlightened banner wavers and socially responsible lost souls out there who seem to have nothing better to do. How did we ever survive as a species before bicycle helmets came along?
I'll get down off my stump now!

If I have to go to lead-free bullets...you'll hear a lot of whining.

I agree... it would be Bullchit to "have too" use only lead free... Its just another choice...

I like them they shoot great....Can't wait to nail another deer with them...Plus we got a whole bunch.. free from AZ game and fish...Free is always good:hump:

while I tend to agree with the use of steel shot for water fowl or even upland birds I think that the minimal amount of lead left by a rifle hunter hunting for a few big game animals should be allowed however that being said if I have to switch I will just wont like it

I will lay a bet.... and a big bet to boot, that we will have to switch to Lead free bullets. Thats just a fact of the direction everything is going. I bet some of you older guys never thought you'd have to shoot Steel shot for Water fowl ?

I LOVE the fact that I have to wear my seatbelt when the Motorbike guy swishing in and out of traffic doesn't have to wear a helmet. I love the fact they are regulating us from ourselves. I'm not a Smoker but let there be a few places for Smokers for Christ sake. I think whether lead or other substance in the bullet, animals will still perish when the projectile goes through them.

Hey guys, the TCSA 1979 specfically excluded ammunition from all regulation. EPA has already refused to consider the application.

Well, if I have to shoot the EPA II'll make sure I use a lead free bullet. Otherwise, all my game will get lead.

We have to use non lead ammo here in CA in the condor zone. I helped about 10 different guys kill hogs this spring with copper ammo and all I can say is, aim for bone. Anything behind the shoulder is asking for trouble. I don't like the stuff but we have no choice. Fortunately broadheads aren't made of lead.

This conversaton is missing the point. If we can't use lead we have to use other metals, which cost a lot more. They cost more in production, and most of the bullet manufacturers will take some time to get them produced. This will create a run on ammunition like we saw roughly 18 months ago.

The point of the ban isnt to make the great outdoors safer, its to make ammunition tougher to get! I it's tougher to get there are fewer hunters, and in turn fewer gun owners. This is about the ongoing battle with the 2nd amendment, not someone's beef with hunting(they may be on board, but it's big picture).

There is a pic of a deer I shot with copper [ this site]...dropped it instanstly... awesome shocking power with copper [30-06]...

I think they should make the slugs out of Gold:D

How many other paranoias do you suffer from?

You don't get lead in your PC or Printers anymore, and your car doesn't have much in it any more, and you can still buy all the PC's you want.

You might Google the term "RoHS" and see what is driving the ban on lead. Has nothing to do with your paranoia and ignorance.

The push for no-lead was based on very poor science from the start and pushed by enviros who have a passing interest in what really happens in the field. Give me an angler or hunter any day for a true conservationist/researcher and you'll almost always get completely different results on subjects such as using lead in ammo. I'm also betting that contrary to what Jose says, the anti gun/ammo nuts are playing a huge part in driving this. I use both lead and no lead loads but do so as choice and will fight to keep bans off the books.

I dont think this startted as a 2nd amendment issure but I do think the antis are def onbouard with the other side on this one now

Yeah, conspiracy theories are always good entertainment.....

Just think, back in the 1970's when they started using UN-LEADED gas, it was all a conspiracy theory to ban hunting in 2075.......

What was the "very poor science" that removed lead from our gasoline in the 1970's?

What was the "very poor science" that removed lead from our paint?

What was the "very poor science" that removed lead from our PC's and electronics during the RoHS efforts?

Isn't Jose's fancy outfit made from condor feathers. Oh wait, my bad after closer examination it looks like baby fur seals. You don't even need bullets to kill fur seals...crow bars, and billy clubs work just fine.
On a side note: I heard that the number of extinct species is estimated at over 400,000. Wow! So whats the big deal about loosing a few more?

I run out of time to post for a while, forgot how much fun it is to get Jose excited about about his liberal buddies.

It's not a conspiracy, if you think about it, it's really the next logical attack. Limit he ammo and it limits the guns. Not hard to figure out.

Sure seems like there is always plenty of Steel Shot when I go buy shells for hunting....

Maybe your conspiracy theory is only effective among the select few nutcases on neighboring barstools?

Guess Jose was right, we are all a bunch of paranoid drunk conspiracy theorists.;)

“EPA today denied a petition submitted by several outside groups for the agency to implement a ban on the production and distribution of lead hunting ammunition. EPA reached this decision because the agency does not have the legal authority to regulate this type of product under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) – nor is the agency seeking such authority."
