Late Season Mid-day Elk Tactics ?

I'm doing a 3rd rifle elk hunt this year in CO. Its my 1st time hunting this late. In the past I'm usually hunting in sept and early October. Im not a veteran elk hunter. I'm more of a deer and antelope guy. I'm hunt elk hard when i do but have had mediocre success.

My question is about mid-day tactics for a Nov bull elk hunt. Im really enjoying Randy's education about hunting sanctuaries in the late season. But my question is what to do for mid-day tactics. Will the elk get up mid-day to water or feed in Nov. Should i still hunt bedding areas or continue to glass bedding areas hoping to spot a bull bedded or getting up to stretch? Thanks for the input.

Lots of "what if" factors to consider. One is, what is on the ground? Six inches of fluffy snow and I would be tracking in the dark timber. Without quiet conditions a better bet might be to glass brushy slopes from a far, to see if you can find a bedded bull. Temperature matters too. If it's quite cold, look for bulls on secluded, sunny south-facing slopes. Hunting pressure is another factor. Will there be a lot of folks bumping elk around?

Its pinon juniper terrain. Average Nov temps are in the 50's and 60's. Looks like classic Arizona habitat.

I'd be interested to know what Corey Jacobsen thinks. Randy suggests on various elk talk episodes that a guy should glass all day. I've spotted elk bedded in the open during the day and stalked them.

How often do you guys find elk bedded in mid day? In the open versus in scattered timber?

Sometimes they surprise me and feed earlier and later than I expect them to.
