Supposed to head to great bend tomorrow to hunt, my buddy is already out there says hunting is tough all the birds on refuge. Anyone have any alternate suggestions it would be appreciated. My son and I are supposed to leave after dinner tomorrow and he's looking forward to his first out of state hunting trip, hoping it can be good for him.

I feel your buddies pain. Wild creatures quickly get pushed to relative or absolute areas of safety. Refuges provide that for waterfowl, and "stale birds" know very well where human activity/hunting is present, and where it is absent.

I know by personal experience that the southern end of McPherson wetlands held very few ducks for last Saturday's evening hunt. There were tons of shorebirds, and probably an easy limit of snipe had I wanted to have a go.

KDWPT website link is below for the bigger impoundments/marshes bird counts.

Texas Lake just west of Pratt straight south on 281, get there early. A little further back east would be McPherson wet lands as before get there early.
