I thought this would be most appropriate here instead of Fireside.
I am reading a book, The Loop , written by Nicholas Evens. It is all about wolves in Montana and how the ranchers don't like them there, and how one wolf attacked a ranchers dog, then killed one of his calves as well. However his son likes wolves and watches them all the time and doesn't want them to be hurt or anything like that...blah blah blah.......

So anyways I reading along and I get to this part of the story where it is about how the wolves hunt and kill an adult moose that is lame in order to feed the pack. Well here is the part straight from the book.
"Where once there had been life, now was death. And out of death, thus, life was sustained. And in that bloody compact, both the living and the dead were joined in a loop as ancient and immutable as the moon that arced above the."

So in my mind the only way for all the wolf haters out there the only way to kill the wolf population, outside of shooting them all is to kill the animlas that they prey on, and ultimantly take away hunting for everyone else.
But hey that is just my two cents with the help from Nicholas Evens, ya'll can disagree with me all you want and I don't care at all. :D :D

Over population  From the little that I know about wolves they will kill want they can eat, and only pick out the old, lame, and young. I honestly don't know. I just don't get why everyone is ticked about wolves I think htey are really cool animals.

Gee cjcj,

Why were there all those bison, deer, elk, antelope, sheep, goats etc. before the wolves were shot out????

Erin....
The Natives of old in this country had that same belief system in place, and I would suspect any and all of the Earth Peoples also.
Wolves being strictly predatory in nature would just as soon eat the easiest food that they can find, cows and dogs would be at the top of the menu would be an easy read.
We have to find some where in the middle for our management practices and start getting away from those that are only one way or the other, radicalism in either direction is not good for our nature populations.
