Joe Rogan podcast with Marcus Luttrell

It was a decent interview, didn't like how it ended though. When's Randy going to get a invite to go on there?

I still have a bone to pick with guys like Marcus and Jacko Winnick when it comes to the psychopath Chris Kyle. Their constant backing of someone who participated and profited in stolen valor can not acceptable. Marcus also believed and still does apparently, The bar fight with Jesse Ventura, which was also proven not to be true. He has no problem dragging a fellow SEAL through the dirt about that.
I’m assuming you are talking about the discrepancies between his Silver star and bronze star totals?

Given what Chris actually did, and the fact that he's now dead, I'll cut him some slack. There is no doubt in my mind that he earned a #*^@#* ton of valor in his service to our country.

Also clearly you didnt listen very well. They are the first to correct eachother in private, but have eachothers backs in public. You have no idea what was said behind closed doors, nor do I. Go ahead and pick that bone with those guys, likely wont tell you anything that is any of your business.

I enoyed the podcast well enough. However, I’ll preface my post by acknowledging the undeniable fact that Marcus Luttrell is most definitely a certified badass and a harder individual than I’ll ever be. That being said a lot of his story is majorly fabricated. Which is a real shame because the true events are heroic and badass enough on their own. Never understand why guys like Luttrell and Chris Kyle (Kyle was far far worse) felt such a need to embellish so much about their accomplishments when the things they have actually done were so incredibly brave and heroic in their own right.

Here's a link to a story where Mohammad Gulab (the guy who saved Luttrell) disputes many of Luttrell's claims.

And another

From what I've read, the Navy approached Luttrell to tell his story. I would imagine that's where much of the fabrications originated from. I have more sympathy for him than guys like Robert O'Neill or Chris Kyle. I mean... Kyle bragged about shooting looters from the roof of the Super Dome during Katrina. This is a deeply embarrassing lie. Not to mention the story he made up about killing two car-jackers and punching Jesse Ventura.

That's definitely a fair perspective and I do tend to agree with you that it seems Luttrell likely just followed orders. Whereas O'Neill and Kyle seem like rogue hero porn profiteers.

But he can control himself. 4 dudes killed his dog. He chased them down and caught them, well armed, but ultimately let it go to the authorities.
Very true - that would take a LOT of discipline and control, especially with a skillset like his. But it doesn't make the airplane story any less baffling. That story, if true, is a red flag for anger issues. And I hope he gets help if he needs it.

My absolutely ignorant wild guess is that Marcus suffers from survivor guilt and is battling alcohol abuse. Hope he can pull out of it.

The role that Opie, Anthony and Jim Norton played in this story and current American political/social culture is amazing.
I’m so happy I was listening live during the Chris Kyle interview when opie brought up him allegedly punching the body in the face.
Remember when Jesse was slapping Jimmy on the back calling him tuff guy, totally out of his mind pissed off because Jimmy had outwitted him in an argument. 😂😂😂
Man I miss that radio show.

Just listened to it based on this thread. I am not sure what ya’ll are so jazzed about. Kind of boring. The one thing I loved is when he asked Joe “Have you ever read Empire of the Summer Moon?” LOL he only mentions that book 3x per-podcast- I seriously hope he asked that tongue and cheek but somehow I do not think he’s operating on that comedic level.

Is Robert O'Neill really the best guy to use to co-sign Luttrell's story? There's quite a bit of controversy around his actions in the Bin Laden Raid and he's been highly criticized by other Seals himself.
He explains that in his book. Same thing happened to the sniper that took the first shot in Captain Phillip's rescue. Anyway, I still wonder how you know Lutrell's account was false. Not saying you're wrong, just how do you know?

I will just leave this here...I withhold judgement, I wasn't there, granted my last mission in country in 2005, was doing an aerial recon of the potential LZs for this mission with the aircrews ~2 weeks prior....

I will also withhold judgement. But if one of the four got a Medal of Honor out of the deal I doubt the day was a picnic. I wondered what happened to the guy that helped him. I thought that took a pretty good sized set of brass balls to do considering he had to live there. The mh-47 that got shot down, pilots son was one of my privates on a 2010 deployment to Afghanistan. He was a good dude. Pretty sure he’s a pilot now too.

Either way I bet navy recruiters loved the books and movies.

There is a lengthy after action report on Operation Red Wings.
