I was just wondering what everybody thinks about paying money to do anything on the reservations. I for one live on a reservation(funny AZ402 always said thats where I would end up )
shhh.gif
and I being white have to pay to go fishing or hunt birds right in my own backyard.I of course also have to have a state license and a federal duck stamp. I also just found out I can't even collect the sheds that eventually will be every where on my property

I think that is taking it way to far, I mean enough is enough,I'm being pentalized for somthing that I did'nt have anything to do with. I'm not being racist and dont want to start a bunch of chit. But if the rest of the state told the indians they were gonna have to pay extra cuz they are indian the world would come to a screechin hault! I dont know maybe I'm just burnt over the shed thing, but what do you guys think?

It's their land...so I guess that can/do make their own rules.

I still think its sad that we took/stole half a country away from them and then gave them these "lots" across the country to live on

I for one won`t pay the high price that the injun`s charge us , and it`s like being in another country when they check you out, you have no due proccess, i have heard of hunters being harrassed just passing thru the res. with game in their truck, i even talked to a guy who payed a fine because his 9 yr. old was shooting a bb gun on the res. and he was shooting cans, not hunting. so it`s a matter of choice but it`s not for me.

How can you feel sorry for them? Some of those reservations are thousands and thousands of square miles. Definitely not what I would call a "lot." I do feel sorry for some of the original Indians, but not the "modern" indians. All most of them do is take advantage of our government.

WH- Have you seen alot of these 'thousands of acres'? Those that I've been on in UT are some of the least productive lands imaginable. The Skull Valley reservation has turned to storing nuclear waste and allowing the testing of bombs on their property to generate money.

It is private property, so they do get to charge if they deem, just like most landowners. However, I can see where it would be depressing to own property that you can't enjoy, but was that an unknown before it was purchased?

Regarding the charge for hunting, I agree that it's private property and they can charge if they want. Doesn't seem to be any different than a ranch charging you for whitetails that you could shoot for free on the other side of the fence.

Concerning the status and welfare of Native Americans today, that's a whole other debatable issue.

They charge because they can. It raises money and impedes the demise of the wildlife.. It's called game management.. just like other groups do it.. As to the welfare of the indians,, I believe the term self determination is pretty much lost for the most part..

The closest RES to where I live is on the Palouse, and is some of the most fertile wheat farming ground around. It also has great timber, and lake front properties.

The local Tribe charges everybody, white, nonlocal indians,.... everybody the same fee to hunt their RES. Basically, if you aint a member of the Tribe, you pay to hunt and fish there.

1 pointer, yes I have seen them, the Yakama and Colville reservations are HUGE! Look at a Washington State map and you will see. The Yakama reservation does have some very productive farm land. Both of them would have the potential for excellent mule deer hunting if they were managed properly. They all get handouts from the government, many of them have nice houses and brand new vehicles and they don't work! I just have trouble feeling sorry for them. The ones that have ambition have plenty of opportunity to go to college and make a good life for themselves, and nothing says they have to stay on the reservation. They can live anywhere the same as all of us can.

I grew up next to a res. went to school with alot of Indian kids.... Have family members that are Indian and think the world of them.
I may sound like an ass but I HATE THE RESERVATIONS and think they should be done away with...........
why should they charge me to hunt on the res and get to hunt MY LAND for free????????
and they also get to kill alot of chit, and have half the fricking year to do it...

Why should I be held accountable for what my great great great grand daddy did to their great great great grand daddy????????

Call me a prick! We won! They lost! I say either let them have total soveriegn nation status and get them off the govt. teet or make the res. part of the country.

For all I care, I think they all should be able to have casinos, brothels, and anything else they want. Just get rid of the BIA and let them live on their own.

Now this sounds like I'm prejudiced, but I'm not. If you wan't to be a separtate nation with your own laws, then so be it!

What better way to get back at the white man then taking their money via casinos and prostitution?

I'll bet this'll stir the pot!

I don't think I would have a problem with them charging if it's private land. But, they don't pay taxes on it and still expect all the services provided by the government. That's the problem I have with it.

JohnSWA ....I have to agree with you . This is a hundred percent chit especially here. My nephew goes to school here on the res and guess what, theres actually more white kids going to school here than indians! But the kids love it cuz they say they have way more computers and do more activities than thay did back home. Sounds like if you want your kids to go to a good public school move to the res! Somthing tells me though that would be all goverment money. Whats crazy is how the white people got this land....I've been told by the old timers the tribe started trading off this land for booze, any surprise there? Most of the buisneses in this town are either owned by the omish or by white people. So in more than one way we are supporting the tribe again. Plus its state road crews taking care of the highway. It just seems like they are playing the goverment for all its worth, its actually really sick! They say they are there own nation but that is only the theme when it benifits them, otherwise they beg for more goverment funding! Jeez how long do we have to pay for what was going to be inetible anyways. They should be happy they are not talking German or Japanese!

Beardown, I knew you'd be bitter living on the rez. Although you are right, I knew you'd end up on one. The Indians have already given Beardown a native name. " One Eyed Snake Lover". I think beardown was on the Wildturkey 101 whe he started this thread........

indians= the original squatters. where is there a document anywhere in history proving they owned any land??? just cause they lived on it doesn't mean they owned it.

That's side ways logic if I ever heard any..Nobody OWNED anything until the land was claimed for the King of Spain.. Then it all belonged to him.. So he stole it from them and we stole it from him and so on and so on and so on.....

It is their land, their rules, their laws. If you don't like it then don't go there or live there. I didn't like where I used to live so I moved. Simple as that. If you want to live there then that is the price you pay. Not a hard thing to deal with.
