Since I got skunked on AZ tags again, I've decided I can't wait to hunt elk with a bow until the Tag Gods deem it proper, so I've decided to take my new act on the road and I'd like input from you all.
I'm looking at Idaho or Colorado for an OTC tag, this being my first year hunting with a bow.
Totally DIY, solo hike in/bivy camp/etc. A work commitment is going to keep me out of any hunt until September 8th or so.
Colorado--(Durango area) pros:
Closer, meaning some chance I'll be able to scout
I think the elk population is much bigger
may have a place to stay a night or 2 in Durango on my way in/out
Idaho (Salmon zone) pros:
have extended family living there, maybe some help not sure how much.
Bull doesn't have to have 4 pts like Colorado (hell, I'd be happy with a spike)
Any input would be appreciated!
