He was looking for a Hawken gun, .50 caliber or better. He settled for a .30, but damn, it was a genuine Hawken... you couldn't go no better.

First thing, I would cut the barrel to a handy 18 inches, and have it cerakoted. That dark wood would have to go. A nice plastic Hawken Hunter stock would be just the ticket. Probably drill and tap the receiver for a Holosun red dot for close cover shooting. Those old timers knew nothing about hunting rifles.
