On another forum I frequent someone put out there that Taurus (yes THAT Taurus) was introducing a bolt action rifle. Here is the intro video. The looks and features are well thought out from a modern perspective BUUUUUUUTTTTT 1) It's a d@mn Taurus product and 2) MSRP is $984.99......FFS there must be some good crack going around Brazil/GA these days.

No worse than S&W dropping a pair of lever actions. One at $1279, one at $3499.

It's 1/3 of what a Seekins costs and just as ugly?

Aesthetics are surely a personal thing (I love both wood and precision style stocks but could never take a beautiful piece of wood hunting and anyone who takes the time to shoot both WILL shoot a precision stocked similar gun better) but EVERY Seekins I have shot (and that is a LOT of them) shoots lights out.......I have zero confidence in anything built by Taurus doing so. Having sold guns for 3 years now I can say that we get Taurus products back at a rate that is very unacceptable. The only reason we still carry them is that there are really cheap folks that insist on buying that crap instead saving up just a little more to get into a decent gun.

@SFC B I just won one of these things with a raffle ticket.. a. Taurus Expedition 308. You work at a gun shop, eh? A year out since you posted... any updates? These things POS, or halfway decent? What's the going rate? I'm getting it from my FFL next week and don't have any particular need for it, but just trying to think what it's worth (NIB) or whether I stick it in the safe til I or someone else needs one. Any experience with this gun?

The market is being tested. Companies learned during the Covid hysteria, what gun owners are actually willing to pay for things. So they are pricing according to the customer's ability/willingness to pay.

That is an answer to a question nobody asked for sure...... ;)
About 90% of guns fit that description tbh.

We never got a single one.....I think our head gun buyer in Fargo saw them, look them over (and margins) and decided it was not something we wanted to be a part of. Also why we stopped carrying the Savage Impulse. We were getting those back at a rate of over 50% failures......horrible. As for what to do, I would probably sell it. If you are looking for something as a backup I would take the money and get a Ruger American Gen II or a Weatherby Vanguard Obsidian....both solid guns and could be had for about what you could probably get for that NIB.

I think there’s a place for Taurus/Rossi. I’ve enjoyed their single shot without any issues. They’re pretty much the only ones making the H&R/NEF style these days, which I find easier to use left handed than the traditional push lever openers. But, maybe that’s all they’re good at?

Stragely enough, their 22 semi pistol appear to be great. People love them and the reviews are great.

Big fan of my Taurus TX22. Shoots well and cycles any kind of ammo just fine, from subsonic to stingers

Would love more DLC coated rifles, but a Taurus?

I bet it shoots, manufacturing is improving everywhere. Design isn’t hard if you copy know features. QC still matters.

700 based action. Good
AICS pattern mags. Good

I prefer a rounded fore end on a hunting stock because a flat fore end is much more difficult for me to get level when resting on an unlevel surface or when using shooting sticks. I’m sure the stock is great off a front rest or using a bipod.

Hammer forged barrel. Sako/Tikka has been able to make them shoot. CZ has too. Generally though, a hammer forged barrel is not a positive. It’s the best way to mass produce barrels, not the best way to make accurate barrels. It’s interesting that Taurus themselves says “the Expedition often delivers sub-MOA accuracy, thanks to its hammer-forged barrel.” That makes sense. The hammer forged barrel is the reason that it “often” delivers good accuracy instead of always.

Made by Taurus. Generally not a good sign.

Price point. It seems like one could purchase a very good rifle from reputable brand in the same price range.

Huh. I'll be curious how reviews go on the Taurus.
