Yea it was the multiple piece rig that I was concerned with.I've towed over 3,000 with an extension twice that long, many times, thousands of miles. Although mine was 1 piece and made to get past the camper overhang.
With that much of a drop hitch that extension is completely unnecessary for any trailer. If he had a straight / no drop then yes it would be tough.He probably did it because of the spare tire overhanging the location of the original hitch. Kind of hard to get a trailer tongue connected up if there's a tire in the way.
