Sgt. 1st Class Jeff Due, right, a U.S. Army recruiter, is surrounded by protesters at Seattle Central Community College, Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, in Seattle. After about a 10-minute standoff during which protesters tore up U.S Army literature, the protesters were successful in getting Due and another recruiter to leave their table under escort by campus security officers. Several hundred students walked out of classes at several Seattle colleges and universities to protest the inauguration of President Bush (news - web sites). (AP Photo/Ted S. Warren)

Hmm I seem to remember this one. I think it was called the 60's.

A-con I'm going to take a wild stab here and say that isn't going to happen.

If the caption is correct, then no, I'm not kidding.
Why, do you think it is OK to destory the property of others ?
Do you think it is OK to praticapate in a protest so confrontational that the recruiter had to "leave under escort" ?
Going to collage is not a right, it's a privlage, and there are lots of young people who would love the chance to go in order to get a higher education.
If they don't like it ( military recruiting ) they have the right to voice their opinions, but this sounds like it crossed way over the line. Simple soultion, expell them.

My Grandfather used to tell me , "Never trust anyone who isn't a communist at 19, a Democrat at 25 and a Republican at 40". Seems to be the natural progression for normal people. The ones who get stuck in the "liberal" phase just seem to be short circuited..

Fecl, I'm not buying they are Protesting, The incident might have happened but the Picture doesn't fit the story, It looks like people are chearing him ?

Yeah, Oscar. That's what I thought! First of all, the recruiter has a smile on his face and the woman next to him is clapping! If I'm going to be jeered, that's the way I'd want it.

I might believe that, except looking at the location, I would be more inclined to believe it really happened.
I would also go along with A-con....
There are way's to have people leave peaceably, but these people in these collages are so brain washed on what they believe to be right and wrong, see no problem with violence to justify their way, but it is not right for any one else.
LMAO Dan....
There is so much trueth in that..... :D

How can anyone not agree...that "if" the protesters destroyed property that they can`t /shouldn`t be arrested? You can have all of the protests you want [that is a right] but you cannot break the law while you are doing it...but i have to say that there isn`t any evidence in the pic.

It looks to me as if they are cheering the fact the recruiter is leaving. The recruiter looks to be doing his job correctly. When confronted at a University with opposing views, smile and walk away. I'm sure he was told of this possibility since the war in Iraq's approval rating has dipped to 38%. It seems odd we have to spend billions of dollars to fund a free election in a country that really doesn't want one, yet social security in this country is in financial trouble. Just a thought.

Usually if people are cheering me on they aren't flipping the bird at my head. Just a big liberal concentration in Portland and Seattle and a little protesting to make the kids feel like they are changing the world. Does remind me of the 60's but no smiles back then. Try putting the draft back and see how many smiles you get from protestors then.

Depends on if he handed the leaflets to them before they tore them up. The article does not make that clear. If he handed them the leaflets and then they tore them, no crime, because then it was their property.

Or if the pamphlets were free and to be picked up by anyone interested.

The expulsion thing is a joke. From the looks of the recruiter he has not been harmed, so I don't see how any battery charges could be brought or any evidence of violence. Would you support the expulsion of students protesting abortions? Until further amended I'm pretty sure the Constitution allows us the right to protest.

If I have a stack of material, ONE free to anyone - someone still does not have the right to take ALL of them and destroy them. Nor does anyone have the right to threaten my safety or to block my exit. Protest all you want - just do not touch me or my stuff.

If the caption is correct, and the "mob" of students needed to be parted, then the "RIOTERS" need to face the same discipline that the rioters got at WSU a few years ago. Looks like a typical gathering of over tampered college pacifists to me. |oo :MAD :BLEEP: |oo

Some people have already made my point, I guess I should have said more. A-Con, if your reason for expelling anyone is from evidence contained in this picture, I'm sorry, I don't see any. If your reason for expelling them is because they were protesting, than I suggest you go back to school and read the Bill of Rights.

Now before anyone starts accusing me of being Satan's offspring, let me say this. I served in the US Army for 5 years defending EVERYONE'S rights. While I don't agree with what they are doing, I will continue to defend their right to do it. If they destroyed pamphlets that were not given to them or were not free for the taking, than try to find those people and prosecute them. But if you are using this picture as evidence of any wrongdoing, I'm afraid you don't have a leg to stand on.

I said, and I'll say again, "if the caption is correct". All we have to go on is what Fecal posted, including a photo and a quote or "caption".
Don't misunderstand me, I didn't say arrest them or beat them, but if the recruiter was there with the premission of the school and this IS how he was treated, then the photo could be used to identify the people who destoryed property and caused such a threat that security gaurdes were needed. If these people turn out to be students, they should be expelled, and lose what ever touition they have paid.
The bill of rights isn't just to protect protesters, it's there for everybody, including the recruiter.
