Hunting in CA can be complicated, subject to demagoguery and amazing all at the same time. Ryan Sabalow is a great writer for the SacBee focused mostly on water and environment issues. His bosses let him dive a little deeper into his personal experiences with hunting and California. It's cool that he was able to tell his story.

He also use to write for the IndyStar and wrote another great article on the captive cervid industry a couple years ago.

That's a great article by Ryan Sabalow. I grew up hunting in central CA, it was a wonderland, there was something to hunt 12 months of the year.

Geez, pigs year 'round, turkey in spring, A zone archery starts in early July, rifle goes almost into October, D zone isn't that far away and goes into November, duckies and upland.. It's year 'round.

Where abouts in central CA? The only thing I can think of to Hunt year round is coyotes.

Northern Santa Barbara County. We hunted pigs, coyotes, and shot ground squirrels for horse ranches (if you call that hunting, it's more like shooting) when other seasons were closed.
