Can’t complain about anything at all.

1 Turkey in April
2 out of 4 big game tags filled
0 walleyes caught this summer. Blame Canada!
0 coyotes killed. Anyone else just not seeing or hearing any in places that used to be crawling with them??
10 photo-worthy sunrises observed to make up for not finding critters.
3 ducks put in the freezer.
5 cottontails put in the freezer.
2 bird possession limits (sharpies and roosters) in the freezer

This is the most disappointing hunting season I can remember. Weird uncooperative weather, big crowds. Looking forward to wiping this one off the books next year.

2nd season in retirement
7 Saturdays a week
Unknown days in the field
Dozens of birds
Lots of fish
2 turkeys
3 deer
2 elk
4 number of rounds fired at 1 elk
3 witnesses to those shots
Countless the number of years I will be reminded of 4 shots
1 moose
1 antelope
1000’s of gophers
100’s of prairie dogs
1 badger

Here in New Zealand we don’t really have seasons so don’t usually look back to assess but it was interesting to review the years successes. The highlight for me was my 13 year old son started hunting big game a year ago and harvested:
1 goat
1 fallow doe
1 chamois
2 red hinds
3 red stags

I took the back seat and harvested:
2 bull tahr
2 red stags
2 fallow bucks
1 red hind.

2- spruce grouse
4- ducks
5- geese
2- antlerless pronghorn
9- Kansas pheasants
1- bear seen while hunting
10- moose seen (no tag)
0- deer I tried shooting
1- deer I regret passing on
1- cow elk lost (no permission to pursue...)
2- months left to ice fish

Not my most successful season ever, but I'm glad to have the time outdoors I did, and it was some of the best times I've had. Learned a lot, had a lot of good times with friends & family, and had plenty of time alone to learn a bit about myself, too.

But this season isn't over yet! Coworker put the bug in my ear to try chasing a wolf...

Wow that’s awesome and I am jealous! Sounds like a great year especially being your sons first year that is remarkable

WOW!
I'm blown away!
...but here's my "numbers"!

1 - crappie (*water dropping in the lake, they wouldn't bite)
0 - deer
0 - turkeys
0 - anything else!

Had shoulder replacement surgery in '19.
I'm hoping to improve those numbers this fall.
At least 1 deer.
Turkeys in spring and fall and hopefully the dog gone crappie will bite! LOL!

* - we had some pretty heavy spring rains. The local impoundment was several feet above "conservation" level so the COE decided they needed to open the flood gates to reduce the lake capacity....right in the middle of the crappie spawn! The crappie, sensing the falling water level, retreated to deeper water, leaving us "no-boat", bank fishermen, well, "fishless"! LOL!

7 - number of smaller bucks I passed on. This is a big deal for me, as I'm trying to be more selective
3 - first time deer hunters I helped get their bucks. One of my best accomplishments to date
1 - Turkey, my first
1 - blown stalk on a young, dumb spike elk
1 - grizzly bear spotted
1000 - mistakes made
500 - mistakes remade
786 - times I sang "simple man" in my head while hiking
1 million - laughs
2 million - smiles

Mine was OK! I went on my hunt of a lifetime in Alaska. Although my friend shot the moose because it was his day to shoot first and I was a part of it! I shot my second largest whitetail with my bow, a 14 point that grossed 174 with about 8 inches of tine broken off, but would have gross scored 183".

2020 season1.jpg

0 elk
0 deer
1 bear, that I didn't shoot, gut, skin, or process.
2 fox
1 bobcat

Man looking at that list maybe I should start gathering. I suck at hunting haha

Oh and the story about the bear. O bought a a bear tag along with my elk tag, but didn't hunt 2nd season bear because I prefer to focus on elk. This year in Colorado the bear tag carried over into the remaining seasons. So I went out a few times but saw no bear in the normal places. So I called Fish and Game and they said most were already hibernating which made sense, but the gentleman asked for my name and number in case he heard anything. About a hour later I got a call from a game warden who had just put a bear down and he said I could put my tag on it if I wanted to. I said of course, because it was my only chance at meat for the year. It was awesome.
